Police leaders hosted a woke conference that created 'a safe space to explore privilege'.

Guests at the This is Me! online event, costing nearly £15,000, discussed inequality and 'intersectionality'. 

It was hosted by North Yorkshire Police and other forces and firefighters joined in.

Social media users criticised the conference after police forces publicised it on Twitter. 

One wrote: 'The public want you to investigate burglary, carry out stop and search and patrol the streets.

'You're sat at some stupid intersectionality conference!'

Speakers at the conference in June included Dr Robert Beckford , who has previously charged £1,500 to talk to officers about 'white privilege'

Intersectionality is a term that describes how race, class and gender 'intersect' with one another.

A North Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said: 'We must understand and be able to support every member of every community and at the same time ensure our workplaces welcome and value everyone equally for who they are.'
