Meet the Australian entrepreneurs making $300,000 a MONTH selling 'game-changing' water bottles - and the Kardashian sisters are big fans

Two best friends that created a game-changing drink bottle are now making more than $300,000 a month in sales with celebrities like the Kardashian sisters singing their praises.

Jesse Leeworthy and Jonathan Byrt, who grew up in a coastal town south of Melbourne, are the masterminds behind Memobottle - a reusable, flat water bottle designed to fit into spaces that round bottles can't.

The pair's business venture began in 2014 when they were just 27-year-old uni students who were frustrated with the amount of single use plastic bottles going to waste.

Fast forward seven years and $1million in crowdfunding, the duo have recently celebrated their 500,000th sale and are selling an average of 20,000 bottles per month.

Mr Byrt said the idea was born out of 'two frustrations' with other drink bottles in the market.

'We were frustrated with the single use water bottles and the environmental impact they had and also the inability to fit round bottles into our bags,' he told Daily Mail Australia.

'We realised all of the things we were putting into our bags were flat, like books and laptops, and it didn't make sense for bottles to be round.'

He and Mr Leeworthy then launched their first of four crowdfunders in 2014, with Mr Byrt admitting he only expected to sell around 500 bottles.

'We thought it was a good idea but didn't know if anyone else would,' he said.

The Kardashians even featured one of the Memobottle products in a bikini launchAnne Hathaway is also a fan of Memobottle

Memobottle has turned the heads of several celebrities including the Kardashians and Anne Hathaway

'We ended up selling 14,000 bottles in 30 days.'

It wasn't long before Memobottle started turning heads all over the world, and more recently catching the eye of the Kardashians.

Mr Leeworthy said earlier this year Khloe Kardashian was doing a product launch for a bikini label on her Instagram account and wanted the bottles to be included.

'All of the Kardashian sisters posted about us in one day, it was nuts,' he said.

'We've had a few moments like that over the years, Anne Hathaway did a post about us earlier.'

Another major milestone was receiving an invitation for Memobottle to feature in the gift bag Oscar nominees received at the 2016 awards show, finding its way into the hands of Leonardo Dicaprio and Matt Damon.

Mr Byrt said the bottles have now become somewhat of a 'fashion icon'.

'Prior to us I don't think anyone considered the water bottle as a fashion accessory, and then there's the convenience side and how it can fit in all sorts of bags and places,' he said.

The bottles come in varying sizes from 750ml bottles to slim fits that can slide straight into customers' pockets.

Prices range from $29.95 to $49.95.

Custom lids and covers are also on offer for those looking to spice up their bottles.

As well as creating a new handy accessory, the duo decided they wanted to give back to the environment and have partnered with non for profit foundation water.org which provides access to clean water for those in need.

For every Memobottle sold one person in need will be provided with access to clean drinking water for two months.

The bottles have changed customer's lives in ways both Mr Leeworthy and Mr Byrt never expected.

One man wrote to the duo explaining that he had an addiction to fizzy drinks and rarely drank water.

'He didn't have a water bottle that was convenient for him until he found Memobottle and basically he now drinks 4L of water and has lost 30kg,' Mr Leeworthy said.

'Another elderly lady said she loved the bottles because she has arthritis and they were the perfect fit to hold between her fingers.'

Memobottle had an estimated net worth of $10million two years ago, Mr Byrt said, and the products are now sold in more than 1,000 stores around the world.
