Two men are jailed for kidnapping Minneapolis realtor, torturing her for information about her rapper boyfriend and then shooting her dead

Two men have been sentenced to life in prison without parole for kidnapping a Minneapolis Realtor in 2019, torturing her in the back of a U-Haul truck while trying to find her rapper boyfriend, and then shooting her dead.

Cedric Berry and Berry Davis, both 42, were convicted for their involvement in an elaborate New Years Eve plot in which they lured realtor and mother of two Monique Baugh, 28, to a phony home showing in a Minneapolis suburb.

The pair then abducted her in a U-Haul truck and tortured her for three hours while they sought information about the whereabouts of her rapper boyfriend Jon Mitchell-Momoh, known by his stage name Momoh.

They then shot her in the head, heart and spine before dumping her in an alley.

Momoh, who had been accused of snitching on a former business associate, was later shot multiple times but survived, the Minnesota Star Tribune reported.

Baugh was found gravely injured, and later died in a hospital.

Berry Davis and Cedric Berry, both 42, were sentenced to life without parole for kidnapping and murdering Baugh. The two were also convicted in the attempted murder of Mitchell-Momoh. They appeared at their sentencing Monday

Prosecutors said the two held Baugh for three hours as they questioned her on the whereabouts of her boyfriend, and she suffered scratches, a chipped tooth, bruises and some of her acrylic fingernails were ripped off, the Tribune reports.

After Baugh's kidnapping, Berry is believed to have used her keys to enter the home where she and Momoh lived with their two daughters, aged 3 and 1, and shot him multiple times, wounding him.

Prosecutors said a former record label associate of Mitchell-Momoh's, Lyndon Wiggins, may have helped organize the killing, believing that Mitchell-Momoh had 'snitched' on him for drug dealing.

Momoh would later recover and testified at Davis and Berry's trial.

He said that Wiggins had accused him of stealing music after he left their record label. Wiggins has been charged for his involvement in the kidnapping and killing the Star Tribune also reported.

At the killers' sentencing, Baugh's mother Wanda Williams Baugh gave a tearful impact statement and said her daughter had faced evil that night

'I can only imagine what was being said to her … how many times she begged for her life,' she told the court. 'My baby was so precious. How dare they!'

'These defendants treated my daughter as if she was less than human,' she said. 'My daughter came face-to-face with evil that New Year's Eve.'

'Monique loved being a mother,' Baugh's mother said. 'I tell her girls that often.'

She said that her eldest granddaughter began asking difficult questions such as: 'How is God going to save us if he couldn't save Mommy?'

'That's a question a child should never have to ask,' she added.

Elsa Segura, 29, who prosecutors say was romantically involved with Wiggins, allegedly lured Baugh to her death by setting up the phony house viewing. She too has been charged for her involvement.

Berry was arrested within a week of the killing, but Davis fled, and was arrested four months later in Chicago.

Prosecutors also charged Shante Davis - Berry Davis' sister and Cedric Berry's wife - with being an accomplice after the fact.

At their sentencing County District Judge Peter Cahill gave Berry 13 years for his kidnapping conviction, 20 for attempted murder an life without parole for murder, while Davis received 13 years for kidnapping, 20 for attempted murder and life without parole for murder.

Both still maintain their innocence.

'I didn’t think I’d be convicted of this,' Davis said during his sentencing. 'If y’all watching the same show as me, didn’t prove me wrong.'

'I’d also just like to say sorry, something I thought I’d never say,' Berry told the court. 'Yet here I sit, a condemned man, sitting in the same seat as Derek Chauvin and I am about to get life without parole for a few fingerprints that said they were mine and some cell phones, and I’m considered a monster in the system.'

Wiggins, Segura and Shante Davis are still awaiting trial.
