Rose Byrne reveals her wedding plans with actor Bobby Cannavale as she discusses shifting from 'serious acting' to comedic roles

Rose Byrne and Bobby Cannavale have kept notoriously private about their relationship over the years.

And on Saturday, the 41-year-old actress revealed to Good Weekend their plans to wed, after nine years together.

She explained that they initially had plans to tie the knot, but becoming parents to their sons - Rocco, five, and Rafa, three - was their first priority.

'I guess for us it's just been, we didn't do it, we'll do it, then – no! Pandemic,' she said, noting as Covid their current hurdle.

Elsewhere, the actress talked about shifting from 'serious acting' to more comedic roles.

Rose starred a slew of dramatic movies and TV shows including post-apocalyptic sci-fi 28 Days Later and TV series Damages, alongside acting giant Glenn Close. 

But it was her role as the snooty Helen in the 2011 comedy Bridemaids that shot her name to stratospheric heights.

'It was less about being famous and more about being a serious actress,' she said of her early career trajectory. 

Speaking of her thriving career now, she said: 'Then I realised I think I might be better at being funny.'  

In recent times, Rose has gone on to star more comedic films, most recently Like a Boss with Tiffany Haddish and in Irresistible with Steve Carrell.

Strict conditions: Rose also talked about filming her new series Physical under Covid-safe protocol in California last year amid the pandemic 

She is currently leading in the dark comedy Physical as a tortured housewife-turned-aerobics guru Sheila Rubin as she battles her eating disorder.

Rose recently told The Australian what is was like to shoot the Apple TV+ series under Covid-safe protocol in California last year.

She said: 'It took a whole lot of protocols with space and safety and all the equipment, especially for people not wearing masks.'

The brunette beauty added that there was regular testing on-set to ensure everyone was safe, and said the series' 80s setting was a great escape to work on amid the pandemic.
