Grand Tourist boom! Businesses near Jeremy Clarkson's Diddly Squat Farm say they have been inundated with visitors after success of Amazon show

Businesses near Jeremy Clarkson's farm have said tourism is booming following the success of his new Amazon Prime TV show.

Chadlington and the nearby town Chipping Norton, in the Cotswolds countryside in Oxfordshire, have received an influx of visitors since the launch of the presenter's Diddly Squat Farm - which appears on his fly on the wall show, Clarkson's Farm.

The Amazon show's roaring success - and the recent opening of Clarkson's popular Diddly Squat Farm Shop - has now seen thousands of tourists descend upon the area.

The boom in tourists comes just weeks after the former Top Gear host, 61, was left facing a furious backlash from residents complained about fans clogging up narrow country roads while visiting his new farm shop.             

But despite reports the shop was hitting the trade of local shops other locals report it has actually helped their business.

Butcher Jim Johnson of Slatters in Chadlington said some of his customers had been left slightly underwhelmed by what was on offer in Clarkson's shop and were arriving to his store instead.

He said: 'It hasn't been a bad thing.

'We're getting the odd person in who's been and is disappointed in his range because he can only sell things from West Oxfordshire.

'People aren't coming there to buy, they're coming to take photographs.

'We had some people who'd come from West Bromwich just to take photographs.'

A volunteer at Chadlington Quality Foods said: 'As for the new fame the series has brought to the village - well, we've always been very happy with the way that the village presently is, although it has certainly made for interesting times and given us plenty to talk about.'

Cllr Dean Temple, whose ward covers Chadlington, said of the TV show: 'I must say it has brought quite the increase in my inbox.

'Obviously advertising a business on TV was always going to have a massive response with many, I suspect, coming hoping to meet the stars of the show.

'Hopefully as the novelty wears off the traffic should decrease and local businesses including the newly reopened Tite Inn should see an uptake in trade as those who have travelled far will want to enjoy more of our lovely part of the Cotswolds.

'I am of course working with all concerned parties to sort out the outstanding issues.'

And Linda Maia e Silva owner of the Crown and Cushion in Chipping Norton said the farm had now become something of a local visitor attraction with a lot of her guests hopeful of bumping into the man himself or his sidekick Kaleb Cooper.

She said: 'A lot of guests are asking where the farm is. People who've booked to come here visit places like Blenheim Palace and now it's on their visit list as well.'

Last month, villagers living near Clarkson's farm complained about fans clogging up narrow country roads while visiting his new farm shop. 

Some neighbours are also claimed that Clarkson was hitting the trade of local shops and pubs by selling food and even beer on his farm.

Others accused him of cashing in on the success of his new series on Amazon Prime.

The presenter can be seen on the show trying to turn his hand to running his rural business by taking on the management of his 1,000 acre farm near Chadlington, Oxfordshire. 

The popularity of Clarkson's Farm led to thousands of his fans deciding to drive to his shop to check out his stock which includes honey, milk, jam, and a candle called This Smells Like My B*******, inspired by Gwyneth Paltrow's Goop range of wacky produce.

But local mothers complained of being stuck in queues of traffic while on their school runs. 

One 33-year-old mother, collecting her son from the village primary school, said: 'It was so chaotic that I was late picking up my son from school because the usual ten minute journey took me half an hour. It was a roadblock caused by Clarkson ites.

'I know of one man who queued for two hours and ten minutes for a bag of truffle oil chips. Ridiculous.'

Following the opening of his farm shop last month, pictures emerged of hundreds of cars piling up on nearby roads, causing huge queues for residents.

One local wrote on a local Facebook forum: 'Avoid going anywhere near Diddly Squat farm shop, whole road is blocked again, but worse there are people stopping on the 60mph bend with nowhere to go.'

Others warned the congestion at the scene was an 'accident waiting to happen'.

'Clarkson will not be remotely bothered. I'm sure he's laughing at us all from behind the shop till,' a third person added.

The emergency services were contacted as pictures emerged of hundreds of cars being left at the side of the road. 

A Thames Valley Police spokesperson said: 'Officers received reports in relation to congestion on the roads in Chadlington.

'Officers attended the scene, but no crime had been committed.

'Our neighbourhood team for the area is aware of the situation.'

In June, Kaleb Cooper, 21, who is filmed repeatedly giving Clarkson, a dressing down during the hit Amazon Prime series, described what it was like working with the TV presenter. 

He told ITV's This Morning: 'I'm the boss really. It's very difficult to work with him - he doesn't listen to me - but the good thing is he does have a genuine interest in the farming. But yeah he don't listen, that's why you see me shout at him, and I do get genuinely angry when he does make a mistake'.  

Clarkson bought the plot of land in 2008 and Clarkson's Farm follows the presenter's highs and lows of tackling a 1,000 acre working farm.

The presenter recently revealed he was 'the happiest he has ever been' and that he 'loved every second' of filming the new hit show.

His Diddly Squat shop is described as a 'small barn full of good, no-nonsense things' on its official website.
