Extraordinary never-before-published interview with Geoffrey Edelsten reveals the 'TRUTH' about Brynne's claims their marriage was sexless - and why they split after five years

A previously unpublished interview with flamboyant businessman Geoffrey Edelsten has revealed he denied his marriage to second wife Brynne was sexless.

The controversial former doctor and Sydney Swans owner who made his fortune establishing extravagant medical clinics said in the 2019 interview he was a 'romantic fool'.

Edelsten died aged 78 on June 11 in his Melbourne apartment after becoming a recluse in his final years.

He agreed to the interviews to respond to criticism by television personality Kerri-Anne Kennerley over his star-studded $3.3million wedding to Brynne at Crown Casino and the claims made by Brynne herself.

'We did consummate. Brynne knows the truth,' he said in the November 2019 interview with The Herald Sun.

'Our marriage broke up because ... A former boyfriend contacted me and said she worked at the Skin Cabaret in Arizona.'

'I think these with sorts of things, you should divulge. She's denied it, and says she was a cocktail waitress.'

He also used the interview to take a swipe at Kerri-Anne Kennerley who said she only attended his wedding - they had met just once before when she interviewed him and first wife Leanne - because it would be entertaining.

The wedding was also attended by The Nanny actress Fran Drescher and Seinfeld's Jason Alexander who hosted the event.

Edelsten said Kennerley was only invited because they were raising money for charity and he thought her presence would increase the donations.

Brynne has previously denied being a stripper but did claim in an interview that the couple never once slept together during their five year union, and while she wanted to consummate the marriage, it 'wasn't her decision'.

'It was something we never really spoke about,' she said. 'I assumed we were waiting for marriage, but then it didn't happen. I thought maybe it was all the medication he was on,' she said.

'After so long you kind of forgot about it It was confusing to me.'

Brynne and Geoffrey were married for five years after tying the knot in November 2009 when he was 67 and she was 26.

They announced their split in January 2014.

He went on to marry Gabi Grecko one year after he and Brynne separated.

His weakness for women was matched by his extravagant lifestyle and the two things were often combined. He is said to have bought his first wife a sports car and a helicopter for her 21st birthday.

He rose to prominence as a medical entrepreneur in the 1970s, disappeared from view when he was sentenced to a year in jail and then spectacularly resurfaced with his marriage to Brynne and a penchant for candy-coloured suits.

Edelsten was born in Carlton in Melbourne's inner-north in 1943, the son of Jewish immigrants Hymie and Esther, who owned a lingerie boutique.

He went to primary school in Carlton North and secondary school in Burwood before earning a double degree in medicine and surgery at the University of Melbourne.

The enterprising young trainee doctor spent any spare time he had managing Melbourne bands, writing music and trying to get an emerging record label, Hit Productions, off the ground.

He worked at Royal Melbourne Hospital after graduation then as a GP in rural Victoria and New South Wales.

He gained a pilots licence and began to offer remote services before turning his attention to the expansion of medical practices in Sydney.

Starting with a practice at Coogee, Edelsten began opening revolutionary 24-hour medical centres offering bulk-billing, so that patients bore no financial cost for consultations.

His first clinic was reportedly seeing 2,000 patients each week within four months of opening. By the time he had 13 medical centres, about 20,000 people were coming through the doors every seven days.

His clinics attracted attention for interior decor not normally associated with medical practices. This included mink-covered examination tables, chandeliers and white grand pianos in the waiting rooms.
