Newly engaged couple's home suddenly erupts into flames and burns to the ground on Christmas Day killing their two beloved dogs

A young couple are devastated after their two beloved dogs were killed in a house fire on Christmas day.

Jordan Street, 25, and Ruby Debrincat, 23, were looking forward to spending their first Christmas together with their pups 10-week-old Winnie and 10-month-old Gunnar.

The newly engaged couple only added Winnie to their family weeks before the fire tore through their home in Newborough, in Victoria's Latrobe Valley.

Tragedy struck when Mr Street and Ms Debrincat were visiting family in Melbourne, and they returned home to find their house reduced to ashes.

The dogs died when the fire trapped them inside the home.

'At roughly 3pm we got the most horrific call I could ever receive to say that our home had caught fire,' Mr Street said.

'We raced home roughly doing 100km an hour through the streets of Newborough to go save our babies.'

When they arrived the couple couldn't find the two dogs anywhere. They had the back door open so the dogs could come and go but the pups could not get out.

Mr Street desperately tried to break down a wall with a shovel, but it was too late. 

Both Winnie and Gunnar's bodies were later found huddled in the bedroom closet.

The couple has been mourning the loss of their 'fur babies'. 

Mr Street penned a heart-wrenching post for the pair which read: 'Daddy is so sorry mate. Daddy loves you so much. 

Mr Street's mum Rachael Mayes, has started a Gofundme page in the hopes of helping the young couple after losing both dogs and all their possessions

'Mummy and I miss you both incredibly and our hearts are filled sorrow and hurt.

'May you beautiful angels forever live on in our hearts and you were truly special.'

Mr Street's mum Rachael Mayes started a GoFundMe page in the hopes of helping the young couple after losing both dogs and all their possessions.

'They treated them like they were their children and were just starting to build their lives together,' she told Yahoo. 

The house blaze is under investigation but it is believed to have been started by an electrical fault.
