Charles Manson fanatic has murderer's ashes TATTOOED into an 'X' on his forehead to match the cult leader and 'Helter Skelter' inked above his eye - as he admits 'it's weird that Charles is a part of me now'

A Charles Manson fanatic has had his ashes tattooed into an 'X' on his forehead to match the cult leader and 'Helter Skelter' inked above his eye, five decades after the murderer sent his followers out to kill in order to inspire a race war.

Patrick Boos, a 45-year-old married man from New York, paid $600 for the two tattoos linked to the man he described as a 'prophet' saying it was 'a once in a lifetime opportunity' he couldn't pass up.

He said he paid tattoo artist and self-proclaimed 'professional weirdo' Ryan Almighty for the privilege after the artist said he got some of Manson's ashes from a former friend of the notorious mass murderer's grandson.

He opted for the phrase 'Helter Skelter' to be tattooed above his right eye - a reference to the Beatles' song and the name Manson adopted for the race war he encouraged his followers to start.

Boos also decided to get the 'X' to match the notorious killer's own tattoo that he famously carved into his head every day during his murder trial.

The so-called 'Manson Family' of cult followers also copied the design on their own faces during the trial and Manson later turned his cross into a full swastika.

Boos admitted to Vice that 'it's weird that Charles is a part of me now' and said 'we really don’t know' if Manson was responsible for the multiple murders he was convicted of.

However he insisted he does not want to start a race war or be like the infamous killer, describing himself as a 'nobody'.

The 45-year-old sought out Almighty and got in touch with him after he heard he had used Manson's ashes for other pieces of art.

'The tattoo was a once in a lifetime opportunity to me. A piece of history...,' Boos told Vice.

'It’s weird that Charles is a part of me now. Kinda creepy, I guess. And I don’t think it will affect me in any way.'

While he said he was 'sad for the victims' slaughtered by the doomsday cult, Boos said Manson 'is now forever infamously part of history, and I chose to have that DNA history a part of me'.

Boos said he does 'think did send the Family out for the murders' but said 'we really don't know' and also described the serial killer as a 'prophet'.

'We really don’t know if Charles Manson did anything other than being a cult leader - he may have sent others to kill, but he claims he had nothing to do with it,' he said.

Boos suggested Manson may have been influenced by drugs or may not have remembered the crimes.

'I think he did send the Family out for the murders. Maybe he was tripping when he told them to do it and doesn’t remember saying to do it, I don’t know,' he said.

Despite his fascination with Manson, Boos said he doesn't want to be like him and doesn't believe there should be a race war.

'I don’t want to be like him at all. I’m a nobody – I’d rather be home with my family than be around people,' he said.

That said, he told how he opted to get the Helter Skelter tattoo because 'of all the chaos going on today', citing the pandemic, the 'political bulls**t' and Black Lives Matter.

'I decided to go all out and add the Helter Skelter because of all the chaos going on today, which is still going on, with this virus and all the political bullshit and Black Lives Matter,' he said.

'Charlie was a prophet, if you listen to some of his interviews.'

When asked if he agreed with Manson's message about a race war, Boos said: 'For him, maybe, but not me. I think I stated what it meant for me: all the chaos going on today in the world around us, how crazy things are right now.'

Boos also decided to get the 'X' to match the notorious killer's own tattoo that he famously carved into his head every day during his murder trial. Manson later turned his cross into a full swastika (above)

He went on to say it 'has nothing to do with race for me' and said 'people need to unite together'.

He added: 'It's bullshit that everyone can’t get along because of each other’s point of views or beliefs.'

Boos acknowledged there is a 'stigma' around collecting serial killer's items and that even Manson would think he was 'crazy' but said 'I don’t give a s**t what others think'.

'People have said all sorts of stuff, like I’m crazy or I’m sick. Or the cremains are probably fake. It doesn’t bother me,' he said, adding that it had affected his wife more than him because of 'all the mean stuff people were saying'.

Boos told Vice he does 'think' the cremains are real but admitted he does not have any proof of authenticity.

When Manson died in 2017, some of his ashes were scattered in the Sierra Mountains in California during his funeral service, some were scattered over the Gulf of Mexico and some were given to 'Manson Family' cult member Sandra Good.

Good had remained a loyal follower of Manson's up until his death, moving to Hanford, California, to be close to Corcoran State Prison where he was imprisoned and setting up a pro-Manson website.

She was given some of the ashes by Manson's grandson Jason Freeman, who was awarded custody of his remains following a bizarre battle between him, longtime Manson pen pal Michael Channels, and LA musician Matt Lentz who claimed he was Manson's son.

Almighty wrote in a blog post that he got his hands on the cremains through a man called Tony Miller, who attended Manson's funeral and was friends with Freeman.

He said Miller pocketed some of Manson's ashes during the service and gave him some of them to use in art.

He has since claimed to have used the cremains in a series of paintings and a mask of Manson's face.

Manson died in a California hospital in November 2017 aged 83 after serving more than four decades in prison for the murders of seven people back in 1969.

He formed a cult in California known as the Manson Family in 1967.

Central to the cult was Manson's beliefs in starting a race war, which prosecutors said was the motive for him sending his followers to commit murder.

On August 9 1969, Manson Family members Tex Watson, Patricia Krenwinkel, Susan Atkins, and Linda Kasabian murdered pregnant actress Sharon Tate at the home she shared with her husband film director Roman Polanski in Cielo Drive, Beverly Hills.

They also killed three of Tate's friends - Jay Sebring, Abigail Folger and Voytek Frykowski - and Steven Parent, an 18-year-old man who was visiting the caretaker of the estate.

The following night, the same group of young followers - together with Leslie van Houten and Manson - murdered Leno and Rosemary LaBianca in their home in Los Feliz, Los Angeles.

Manson received nine life sentences for the murders. Some of his followers including Susan Atkins, Leslie Van Houten, Charles 'Tex' Watson and Patricia Krenwinkle were also convicted.
