Trump campaign files lawsuit to order new statewide election in Georgia to challenge ‘tens of thousands of illegal votes'

President Trump's campaign filed a lawsuit in Georgia seeking to invalidate the election results there, the latest in a series of legal challenges aimed at reversing his loss that have so far gone nowhere.

The Trump campaign claimed in a statement there was 'literally tens of thousands of illegal votes that were cast, counted, and included' in the 2020 General Election.

'The massive irregularities, mistakes, and potential fraud violate the Georgia Election Code, making it impossible to know with certainty the actual outcome of the presidential race in Georgia,' wrote Ray S. Smith III, lead counsel for the Trump Campaign.

It also promised the lawsuit would include sworn statements from Georgia residents ordealleging fraud.

The Trump campaign has filed 46 lawsuits, none of which have made serious headway, since Joe Biden was named President-elect on November 7.

Trump's team and various individuals backing him have suffered a string of legal defeats around the country, including in cases filed in Nevada and Wisconsin that sought court orders to reverse those states' election results.

President-elect Biden won the election with 306 Electoral College votes - against the 270 required - to Trump's 232.

A district judge in Nevada on Friday dismissed a case brought by would-be Republican presidential electors and said they must pay defendants' legal costs after failing 'to meet their burden to provide credible and relevant evidence to substantiate' any of the lawsuit's claims.

The Wisconsin Supreme Court in a 4-3 decision declined to act on a case that sought to have the court nullify the presidential election in the state and pave the way for the state legislature to choose Wisconsin's 10 presidential electors.

'Such a move would appear to be unprecedented in American history,' Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice Brian Hagedorn wrote in his concurring opinion of four justices issued on Friday.

In Georgia, officials have already administered two election recounts, and a third was nearly completed Friday evening.

Current results showed Biden as the winner by 11,769 votes.

The new lawsuit alleged that Fulton County election officials lied to Republican poll watchers at 10pm on Election Day, Fox News reports.

'After Fulton County Elections Officials lied and defrauded the Republican poll watchers and members of the press, whereby in reasonable reliance the Republican poll watchers and members of the press left the State Farm Arena (where they had been observing the ballots being processed), without public transparency Fulton County Elections Officials continued to process, handle, and transfer many thousands of ballots,' the lawsuit read.

And Rudy Giuliani, Trump's personal lawyer, shared an alleged instance ofvoter fraud with video taken State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia.

It shows a group of four people allegedly shows people taking out at least four boxes of ballots from underneath a table and then counting them.

A witness described a 'lady with the blonde braids' removing boxes of ballots from under a black table for counting.

Giuliani's witness claimed there was no election observer present – and that the ballots are therefore fraudulent.

Giuliani called the footage 'smoking gun' video, but Raffensperger's office investigated the video and said nothing appeared out of the ordinary.

Gabriel Sterling, the state's voting implementation manager, also debunked Giuliani's claims and accused Trump's legal team of 'intentionally misleading the public.'

The statement from Trump's campaign explicitly asked that Georgia's presidential election be redone.

'The Secretary of State has orchestrated the worst excuse for an election in Georgia history,' wrote Smith. 'We are asking the Court to vacate the certification of the presidential election and to order a new statewide election for president.'

Trump's campaign has spent nearly $9 million on its unsuccessful bid to overturn the results of the election, including nearly $2.3 million to lawyers and consultants.

The campaign and the Republican National Committee have raised at least $207.5 million since Election Day, much of it from solicitations asking for donations to an 'Official Election Defense Fund'.

The fine print made clear most of the money would go to other priorities through Trump's new political action committee, which could fuel his future political endeavors.
