Brother, 18, 'accidentally shot and killed his college student sister, 19, while showing off his new gun during her Christmas break'
Houston authorities are looking into an 18-year-old's accidental shooting of his 19-year-old sister, which resulted in her death.
The Houston Police Department responded to the scene on the 100 block of Wellington Street in north Houston at around 1pm after getting calls of a deceased woman.
Officers shared during a news briefing that the man had been showing his sister - identified as Laura Natalya Rodriguez - a new gun when the firearm went off and hit the woman in her neck.

Rodriguez was pronounced dead at the scene, ABC 13 reports.
There was an older sibling in the home who tried to administer CPR and called 911, police shared.
'It's a tragic situation for the entire family, and our thoughts and prayers are with them,' HPD Sgt. Matthew Brady said.
The family has launched a GoFundMe to help pay for funeral expenses for Rodriguez. It has raised just under $12,000 of its $10,000 goal.

Rodriguez was a Senior at Syracuse University but had been spending the semester at home because of COVID-19.
Her family shared that her 'favorite place to be was Disney World' and that she 'loved to laugh and have fun.'
