Woman discovers part of 'human heart' floating in jar of formaldehyde in the kitchen of her new home

A woman was shocked to discover part of a human heart floating in a jar of formaldehyde in the kitchen of her new home. 

Kathryn Gaston, from Glasgow, entered a picture of the aortic valve into a competition to determine the 'freakiest new home finds'. 

Unsurprisingly, Ms Gaston won the competition, held by sofa company ScS and was rewarded with a free sofa worth £849.99. 

Other bizarre finds from the 500 entries included two animal skulls as part of a 'witch decoy kit' found under the stairs by Kerrie Jackson in Wrexham.

Other bizarre finds from the 500 entries in the competition, held by sofa company ScS, included two animal skulls as part of a 'witch decoy kit' found under the stairs by Kerrie Jackson in Wrexham

Another sinister find happened in Reading when Timothy Grainger moved into his new house and discovered handcuffs mysteriously hanging from the ceiling in the attic

Leah Finch, from Shrewsbury, found an E.T. toy in her loft. She said: 'Sadly, he was not able to phone home from there - this was one alien who did not get to go home!'

This kit included eight odd shoes, a half-eaten hat, a horse's skull, another unidentified animal skull, two gun barrels and a glass bottle was found under the staircase of Kerrie's house. 

Tracey Martin also found the remnants of 'witchcraft' in her Brighton home when she was greeted with a huge knife wedged behind a door and two small jars. 

One jar contained a dead spider and the other had a burnt pin in it - which she was told is to do with witchcraft. The trees in her garden were also covered with wooden crosses.     

Anne Marie Martin, from Colchester, found a small bottle of the poison arsenic hidden on wooden beams in her outbuilding. 

Susan Trubey, from Swansea, Wales, found a National Provincial Bank money bag full of old pennies and half pennies hidden under the boards in her attic

Sue Turley, from Norwich, had the life scared out of her by this 1970s resuscitation doll, which she found when she opened a suitcase left in her new home

A 'Virol Bone Marrow' jar was found by Linda Spevic, from Harrow. This concoction, which was a by-product of the brewing industry and contained vitamins and nutrients, was given to 'children and invalids'. It finally disappeared from shelves in the 1980s

Emily McNulty, from Manchester, found this religious book, which dated from 1711, at the bottom of her new fitted wardrobe after taking out some floorboards. She said: 'I have never held anything as old in my life. There's a lot of writing still in this, with verses underlined and even transcribed at the front with a name!'

Inside, the book was signed with a date below of 1768

Paul Jones, from Liverpool, found an unexplained handwritten note alongside a photograph of a clown. 

The note read: 'Dear Megan, I hate you a lot at the moment but I love you.'

When Kimberley  Jebb and her family moved in to their new home in Merseyside, they found this creepy clown sitting in the corner of their attic looking straight at them. She said: 'He was watching everything that came into the loft. We get him out every Halloween to scare the kids with spooky stories!'

 This spooky doll with three faces was found in 2001 by Anita Adams, from Southend. She said: 'When you turned the head, you would get happy, asleep and crying faces!'

Dale Gillespie, Head of Acquisition at ScS, told The Mirror: 'With the property market booming, many people will be moving into new homes, and who knows what they might find when they do?

'We were amazed at some of the crazy things people have come across on moving-in day. Finding something like our winner did would put anyone off their breakfast!

'We hope that a new sofa will help Kathryn create some nicer memories in her home.'
