Teenage girl, 19, dies in horror crash after an 'out-of-control car ploughed into a footpath' leaving two others with crippling injuries

A teenage girl has died after an out-of-control Toyota Camry allegedly ploughed into a group of people, crippling two others as they battle serious injuries in hospital.

Emergency workers were called to the Princes Highway in Wollongong, south of Sydney, at 10.30pm on Saturday.

A 19-year-old was treated for multiple critical injuries at the scene before she was taken to Wollongong Hospital, where she later died. 

It is understand she had been walking down the street with friends when the car clipped the pavement and allegedly ran into the group, before hitting a power pole.

An 18-year-old woman is in hospital with a fractured pelvis and a 21-year-old man is being treated for a broken leg and ribs. 

The fourth person, a 20-year-old male, walked away from the accident unscathed.

Police said the Toyota driver, an 18-year-old man, allegedly lost control of the vehicle and ran off the road.

The driver, who is being treated in hospital for minor injuries, and his 21-year-old male passenger was arrested at the scene and taken for drug and alcohol testing.

A second passenger is being questioned by police. 

Crash Investigation Unit were called to examine the scene.
