Fresh outrage over Allen’s new non-racist lollies as it’s revealed Redskins are now named after a serial killer who raped and murdered 52 women

Allen's has faced more backlash over renaming their Redskin lollies after Australians pointed out their new name is the same as a notorious serial killer.

Allen's parent company Nestle announced on Monday Red Skins and Chicos would be renamed to Red Ripper and Cheekies following claims the branding carried racist connotations.

But lolly fans were quick to point out that Red Ripper was also the name used to describe Soviet killer Andrei Chikatilo - who murdered, mutilated and raped at least 52 women during a 22-year spree.

The killer was sentenced to death plus 86 years for the murders and the reviled killer was executed in 1994 by a Russian judge.

'Allens has re-named one of its lollies after a psychotic woman killer,' one social media user wrote. 'Does no one have Google there?'

'Which genius at the Allen's marketing department came up with the idea to rename Redskins to the nickname of Russia's worst serial killer?' another said.

'That won't offend anybody!'

While Chicos is considered a derogatory name for a Spanish boy, the term redskin is slang for Native Americans in the US.

Nestle said the previous names were 'out of step' with company values.

Lolly fans said the new name drew comparisons to Soviet killer Andrei Chikatilo - who murdered, mutilated and raped at least 52 women during a 22-year spree

The Red Ripper name likely refers to how the lollies have to be torn apart by the person eating them because of their chewy texture.

Daily Mail Australia has contacted Nestle for comment.

Nestle has said the renamed products will begin appearing on shelves early next year.

'Nestle has an unwavering commitment to upholding respect for our friends, neighbours and colleagues,' Nestle confectionery general manager Chris O’Donnell said in a statement.

'We hope Australians will support the evolution of these two much loved lollies – while the names are new, the lollies themselves remain unchanged.

'We will keep pack changes simple to help lolly lovers find their favourites easily.'

'RED RIPPER' ANDREI CHIKATILO: THE SERIAL KILLER 'VAMPIRE'

Andrei Chikatilo is one of the most infamous serial killers in Russian history, responsible for the sexual assault, murder and mutilation of at least 52 women and children in the Soviet Union between 1978 and 1990.

He was born in the Ukranian Soviet Socialist Republic, modern-day Ukraine, in 1936 as the area suffered mass famine due to the Stalin's forced collectivisation of agriculture.

Throughout his adolescence he struggled with chronic impotence which persisted into adulthood, which Chikatilo said made him so ashamed he tried to hang himself.

His first recorded murder took place in 1978 when he lured a nine-year-old girl, Yelena Zakotnova, to an old house in Shakhty. After trying to rape her, he stabbing her repeatedly in the abdomen and choked her, becoming sexually aroused, before throwing her body in a river.

After a four-year lull, he started a spree of murders from 1981, which became more extreme - mutilating his victims' bodies, often with his teeth, and gouging their eyes out.

Chikatilo was arrested in 1984 on suspicion of a murder, where it was revealed he was wanted for theft from one of his former employers. Investigators took a blood sample from him but it didn't match the ones on record for the killer of his victims, which now totalled 15.

After three months in prison for theft, he was released and began killing again.

He killed 37 more people until he was spotted in November 1990 by an undercover officer after he murdered a 22-year-old woman named Svetlana Korostik. Chikatilo was arrested, and confessed to 34 of 36 murders officers had at that time linked to him.

He admitted to tasting the blood of his victims, tearing at their lips and genitals, and chewing on the excised uteruses and penises of some.

Chikitalo later told police of 22 further killings, and underwent psychiatric evaluation.

He was brought to trial in April 1992, and appeared in a cage specifically-constructed for him to protect him from the irate families of his victims.

A judge sentenced him to death plus 86 years for 52 murders and five counts of sexual assault for which he had been found guilty - prompting Chikatilo to kick his cage in anger.

An appeal failed, and he was executed with a single gunshot to the head in 1994.

The name changes had already sparked a mixed reaction from lolly lovers online - with many believing the names should have never been changed.

'Redskins forever!!! Chicos forever!!! Never designed with any other purpose other than to be enjoyed,' one lolly fan commented.

Another added: 'You can dress them up and change they’re name but they’re still Redskins. Just because all the do gooders say you can’t call them that, they will always be.'

Nestle announced the name change earlier this year in an effort to not 'marginalise' consumers.

'This decision acknowledges the need to ensure that nothing we do marginalises our friends, neighbours and colleagues,' the company said in a statement.

'These names have overtones which are out of step with Nestlé’s values, which are rooted in respect.'

The proposed name change of the much-loved lollies was slammed by One Nation Senator Pauline Hanson.

'Pathetic... the only way to describe companies and politicians dealing with the cancel culture epidemic,' she wrote on her Facebook page in June.

'I keep telling people that caving in to the hysterical left's demands only makes things worse.'
