'Besotted' soldier, 33, is demoted and handed restraining order after turning up on his ex-girlfriend's doorstep surrounded by candles to propose to her and bombarding her with messages on social media

A 'besotted' soldier has been demoted  and handed a restraining order after he turned up on his ex-girlfriend's doorstep surrounded by candles and proposed to her and bombarding her with messages on social media.

Corporal Philip Dragon left Chloe Haynes stunned when he turned up at her home unannounced with the engagement ring after the end of their two-month relationship.

Although Miss Haynes had repeatedly told Cpl Dragon that she never wanted to see him again, he continued to harass her by bombarding her with messages and gifts.

Cpl Dragon, from Tidworth, Wilts, also harassed Lance Corporal Jade Brisband for six weeks, when she finished their three-week relationship by turning up unannounced at her house four times, creating fake social media accounts to speak to her and showering her with messages.

The 33 year old insisted he was just professing his 'undying love' for the women but a military court judge said 'it's rather sad behaviour for a man of his age'.

It was heard Cpl Dragon, based at Tidworth, Wilts, harassed L/Cpl Brisband for six weeks from January to March and Miss Haynes for a month from June to July.

Cpl Dragon - who is a social media star with millions of likes on his videos on TikTok - was given a restraining order and reduction in rank at a court martial after admitting two counts of harassment.

William Peters, prosecuting at Bulford Military Court, Wilts, said Miss Haynes ended the relationship after an argument.

Mr Peters said: 'He begged her to stay and she refused, saying that she wanted to go. When she asked him to take her home he grabbed her arm, causing her to be scared and leaving a bruise.

'She told him she didn't want to see him again. He sent her 55 texts, sent her gifts, flowers and sent her letters.'

Mr Peters said Cpl Dragon later turned up uninvited at her home in Trowbridge, Wilts, despite her insistence she didn't want to see him again.

He said: 'She saw a figure outside the door surrounded by candles. He produced a ring and wanted to marry her.'

Cpl Dragon's harassment of the woman had 'all the hallmarks' of the harassment he waged on L/Cpl Brisband, Mr Peters said.

The soldier of 16 years, who served on two tours of Iraq, sent her unwanted gifts and cards and turned up at her doorstep in Bicester, Oxon, four times.

Mr Peters said: 'He sent her numerous, unsolicited texts and messages and she had to block him on social media. He created pseudo social media accounts to contact her so he could try to restart the relationship.

'She felt under constant pressure, felt fear and felt harassed that he would not leave her alone.

'In police interview, he accepted the facts but described himself as a hopeless romantic and wanted to rekindle their relationship.'

Trevor Line, defending, said: 'His unwarranted contact with both of them arose out of him wishing to rekindle his relationship.

'They are messages that did not contain threats or nasty words, they are him stating his undying love for them.

'He is, as he sees it, a rejected boyfriend to show his affection for them.... He was not planning to cause harassment, he was planning to contact them to rekindle the relationship.'

Judge Advocate General Alan Large reduced the soldier's rank to Lance Corporal, gave him indefinite restraining orders preventing him contacting the women, and gave him a 60 day detention suspended for two years.

JAG Large said he was 'besotted' and warned him not to commit further 'possessive behaviour'. JAG Large said: 'There was no evil or malice but he just could not stop himself.

'One might take the view that it's rather sad behaviour for a man of his age.'
