Couple, 22, are found guilty of vicious baseball bat attack on the woman's abusive ex-boyfriend that left his 'brain matter' splattered on the pavement after luring him into a trap

A man who battered his girlfriend's abusive ex-partner with a baseball bat, which left his 'brain matter' splattered on a pavement after she lured him into a trap, is facing jail along with her.

James White, 22, had rekindled his teenage romance with Crystal Culhane, also 22, over an Indian meal on August 18 last year - and brought her back to his flat in Harefield, west London for a night of passion.

However, Culhane was also dating 33-year-old Paul Flory, despite his history of violence against her.

Impressed by White's flat and ostentatious lifestyle, Culhane used him to get Mr Flory out of her life that same night.

In a series of text messages, she told Mr Flory where she was and waited for him to turn up on White's doorstep.

White armed himself with a baseball bat and headed outside to batter Mr Flory.

Crystal Culhane (above, outside the Old Bailey), 22, lured her abusive ex, Paul Flory, 33, to the home of her other lover, James White, who battered him with a baseball bat. Flory suffered major skull fractures but survived. White, 22, was convicted of possession of the offensive weapon and GBH with intent. Culhane was found guilty of inflicting GBH without intent

Mr Flory was left with horrific injuries to his head and body and found in a critical condition by members of the public.

One of the police officers called to the scene, PC Dean Williams, said he spotted what he 'suspected to be brain matter' along with 'claret' splattered on the pavement.

Mr Flory was rushed to hospital where paramedics battled to save his life.

Investigators recovered the bat containing DNA belonging to White while Culhane was caught by her text messages luring the victim to her lover's home.

White was convicted of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and Culhane was convicted of inflicting grievous bodily harm without intent following a trial at the Old Bailey.

Judge Sarah Munro, QC, said she would pass sentence on December 23.

Prosecutor Tyrone Silcott, said: 'Culhane lies whenever it suits her. She lies not to go to work in a way which does not reflect on her very well, you may think.

'Miss Culhane and Mr White have just had a meal in the Indian. She described him in her message as a gentleman. It is a matter for you but Mr White is probably a bit of an upgrade from Mr Flory.

'He has a nice flat, got a job and the police aren't hunting him. Nice and strong too, bit of an upgrade you might think?

'Mr White and Ms Culhane lured Paul Flory to a location near Mr White's address at approximately 1:30am on August 18, 2019.

'Once Mr Flory attended, he was on his mobile phone in contact with or trying to contact Ms Culhane. Mr White then left his address where he had spent the evening with Ms Culhane and attacked Mr Flory with a baseball bat.

'The attack was vicious and frenzied leaving Mr Flory with horrific life-threatening injuries.

'The paramedics who treated Mr Flory at the scene found him unconscious with very severe head injuries and major fractures to the skull, front and back, and major swelling to the eyes and face with massive bleeding.

'He also had massive bruising to his abdomen and chest. It is a miracle he survived the attack.

'There is no dispute that Mr Flory was subject to an attack at that time and in a location very near to Mr White's address.

'Due to the severity of the attack and injuries sustained, Mr Flory is unable to assist with who attacked him.

'The victim, Mr Flory, had recently served a period in custody for assaulting Ms Culhane. He was convicted despite Ms Culhane refusing to assist the prosecution.

'Despite being forbidden from having contact by the courts, Mr Flory and Ms Culhane had re-ignited their relationship.

'In the days leading up to the attack on Mr Flory, Ms Culhane had also rekindled a relationship with Mr White having previously had a short romantic relationship with him some years before.'

Culhane, of West Drayton, denied attempted murder and White, of Uxbridge, denied attempted murder and having an offensive weapon. They were cleared of attempted murder.

However, White was convicted of possession of the offensive weapon and grievous bodily harm with intent, while Culhane was found guilty of inflicting grievous bodily harm without intent.
