'I thought she was a lesbian': Kyle Sandliands says he has MORE respect for Gladys Berejiklian after learning about her secret relationship with a dodgy politician - and says the premier is 'doing an outstanding job'

Kyle Sandilands says he has more respect for NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian after learning about her secret relationship with disgraced former MP Daryl Maguire.

Ms Berejiklian has resisted calls to resign after her 'close personal relationship' with the former Wagga Wagga member was revealed on Monday at an corruption probe into his business dealings.

The NSW premier conceded she had 'stuffed up' in her personal life, but Sandilands said Ms Berejiklian - who regularly appears on his KIIS FM radio show - had nothing to apologise for.

'I admire the woman greatly for her outstanding job and two - she's got game - she's getting a little bit of D.

'I like that.' 

Sandilands commented on a text message aired at the inquiry - which heard Ms Berejiklian told Mr Maguire 'I don't need to know about that bit' when he mentioned a business deal under investigation.

'She said that to me! If I'm talking about weed or how we all got stoned, she says "I don't need to know that",' Sandilands said. 

Henderson said she would be devastated if the premier had to stand down. 

'If she stands down I would be absolutely gutted for her because I don't think she has done anything wrong,' she said.

'I'm a big supporter of Gladys so I'm really saddened to see what has happened this week.' 

The Independent Commission Against Corruption has accused Mr Maguire of using his public office and parliamentary resources to improperly gain a benefit for himself or for G8way International - a company he allegedly 'effectively controlled'. 

He was forced to quit Ms Berejiklian's government in 2018 after a separate ICAC inquiry.

But, despite her 'close personal relationship' with Mr Maguire which lasted for five years, Ms Berejiklian repeatedly insisted she had little knowledge of his interests.

'I stuffed up in my personal life,' she told reporters later on Monday afternoon.

'Had I known then what I know now, clearly I would not have made those personal decisions.'

Ms Berejiklian earlier on Monday told the inquiry Mr Maguire was a 'big talker' who came up with 'pie in the sky' schemes and 'a lot of the time I would have ignored or disregarded what he said as fanciful'.

Intercepted phone calls between Ms Berejiklian and Mr Maguire were played to the commission, revealing their close relationship 

Recordings of phone calls between the pair played at the hearing, in which Mr Maguire discusses various business deals, appeared to contradict the premier.

The phone calls also forced Ms Berejiklian to deny she had deliberately distanced herself from Maguire's affairs in an attempt at self-preservation.

Fronting the inquiry and having her relationship revealed so sensationally in a public forum has been a 'personal nightmare', she later said.

Opposition Leader Jodi McKay says she doesn't buy Ms Berejiklian story, and she must resign.

'This premier is a fraud and today she's been unmasked,' she said.

Ms Berejiklian had been privy to Mr Maguire's 'dodgy dealing' and had maintained her relationship until long after his resignation in 2018, she argued.

As the inquiry continues on Tuesday, Labor will move a motion of no confidence in the premier, which would need support from government MPs who have so far united behind her.

It has been a terrible month for the coalition government, with deputy premier John Barilaro still weathering the fallout from the embarrassing koala policy stoush and copping criticism over speeding fines.

Radio host Ray Hadley: 'I don't think, for a whole range of reasons, that Gladys Berejkilian can survive this.'

'Given this relationship predated his divorce and separation, and given that she's now admitted had he retired from politics in 2017 she would have made public the relationship.'

Greens MP David Shoebridge: 'It's hard to see how the Premier can survive a day in Parliament this week given the bombshells being dropped in ICAC about her relationship with the... Liberal MP Daryl Maguire.'

Sky News political editor Andrew Clennell: 'When they call a premier you know they've got something. I actually think I that there's a good chance Gladys Berejiklian will have to resign over this.' 

NSW Opposition Leader Jodi McKay says Ms Berejiklian must resign, and if she does not, Labor will move a motion of no confidence in parliament.

'If you thought you knew Gladys Berejiklian, think again,' Ms McKay told reporters.

NSW Attorney-General Mark Speakman and Minister for Jobs, Investment, Tourism and Western Sydney Stuart Ayres have publicly backed Ms Berejiklian.

'Gladys Berejiklian has led the state through the last six months in its most testing period of time, she's got my full support,' Mr Ayres told reporters.

Transport Minister Andrew Constance it wasn't for him to comment on personal relationships.

'I mean, for goodness sake. Let's just call a spade a spade. This is a human being who has worked her socks off for this state and deserves enormous regard and respect, and will continue to do so, and that's the important thing for the people of NSW,' Mr Constance said.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison said he was 'surprised' by the revelations.

'These are very new revelations that obviously came as some news to me,' Mr Morrison told reporters in Queensland.

'I have worked well with the NSW premier over many years, but that is a matter for her and an ongoing inquiry.' 

Shooters, Fishers and Farmers leader Robert Borsak told 2GB radio the news 'flabbergasted' him.

'It certainly was not going around the halls of Macquarie Street, that's for sure,' Mr Borsak said.

'I think she needs to take time out and she should stand herself down until we see the final wash-up of this all.'
