An Aussie champion: Heartwarming moment man who battled for 214 days in hospital after catching coronavirus on the Ruby Princess is finally RELEASED after spending months in intensive care
Queensland's longest hospitalised coronavirus patient has returned home after an intense seven month battle for survival.
Richard Misior, 81, had been in Gold Coast University Hospital for 214 days.
He was rushed to hospital after contracting the deadly virus while on the ill-fated Ruby Princess cruise ship in March.
Struggling to battle against the virus, his first 77 days were spent in intensive care, where he was monitored closely by the respiratory and infectious disease teams.
Doctors feared he would never recover from the illness.

The Surfers Paradise man underwent an extensive rehabilitation and even had to learn to walk again.
'I thought I had the flu and then I disappeared. Later on I realised they put me into an induced coma,' he told 9news.
'Many people recover quite quickly but there are some who don't. And when you get one - a bad one - you're in big trouble.'
Mr Misior said his symptoms were mild at first but slowly his condition deteriorated.
'My vision changed, my hearing got worse, my taste was ruined and my voice disappeared,' he told the Sunshine Coast Daily.
He said it was his wife Helen who pushed him to fight to survive.
He told her: 'I will do everything I can to come back to you'.

Mr Misior said he felt lucky to be alive.
'Some people call me the miracle man, but the real miracle workers are the nurses and doctors of this unit.'
He was finally released from hospital on Thursday.
