Revealed: The seemingly innocent question man asked a woman outside Melbourne's Flinders Street station before 'stalking and sexually assaulting her'

A woman has been sexually assaulted after a man followed her from Melbourne's busiest train station.

The woman was walking along St Kilda Road outside Flinders Street Railway Station just after 11.20pm on September 2 when a man approached her.

Investigators said the man, who was sitting on the steps, asked the victim for the time.

The man wanted for questioning is white, tall with a slim build and short black hair.

He was wearing a black hooded top, black pants, tan work boots and a disposable face mask.
