'If you messed with one, you'd have to deal with the other four!': Mel C says the Spice Girls were never harassed by men as they were 'PETRIFIED' of them

They were one of the biggest girl bands in the world, famed for their 'Girl Power' mantra.

And the Spice Girls certainly had power in numbers as Mel C has revealed that they were never harassed as men were 'petrified' of them.

Speaking in relation to the #MeToo movement, the singer, 46, admitted that the band didn't face sexual harassment in the music industry as she remarked: 'If you messed with one, you'd have to deal with the other four.'

She told the Table Manners podcast: 'I get asked quite a lot about the #MeToo movement within the music industry and if I ever experienced anything.

'And I'm like, 'Are you kidding me?' No one would come near the Spice Girls because they were petrified of us.

'You knew if you messed with one of them you'd have to deal with the other four... so we always had back up.'

She added that the sexist behaviour they experienced however lit a 'fire in their bellies' which further urged them to drive home the Girl Power message.

Meanwhile, while she stated that the girls were not troubled or intimidated by the opposite sex, they were met with resistance when they first formed in the 1990s as label bosses were not keen to back a female group.

She added: 'We started talking about Girl Power because we experienced sexism in the industry.

'We were just five girls, we wanted to be famous, we wanted to be pop stars. Quite quickly we were being told: 'Girl bands don't sell records, you can't be on the front cover of magazines because girls buy records by boys'.

'We were like: 'Seriously, don't say that to the Spice Girls' - that's a red rag to a bull.'

It comes after Mel reportedly made a staggering £2.8million last year from the Spice Girls reunion tour.

The I Turn To You hitmaker is said to have pocketed a big payout for the huge 13-date tour during the comeback as they played to more than 700,000 fans.

Accounts for Sporty Spice's touring company, Red Girl Media Ltd, show she raked in £2,780,556 for the tour and her solo shows, according to The Sun.

But the star had previously turned down £2 million for a proposed comeback four years ago.

She admitted in 2016 that being in the group made her depressed as she quit talks of a reunion.

Mel said at the time: 'When the Spice Girls were at their biggest, I couldn't even really look at myself in the mirror because I didn't like what I saw. Depression, eating disorders, over-exercising... I went through all of it.'

She then admitted how much she rejected, saying: 'Realistically, it would have been a couple of million pounds.'

The revelation comes amid speculation that Mel could reunite with her Spice Girls bandmates for another tour next year to celebrate the girl group's 25th Anniversary.

Talking to Zoe Ball on her Radio 2 Breakfast Show recently, Mel was grilled about the rumours of another reunion with bandmates Mel B, Emma Bunton and Geri Horner.

Fifth member Victoria Beckham turned down the 2019 tour as she wanted to focus on her family and fashion company.

Addressing the speculation, Mel admitted that the Spice Girls have been 'constantly talking' about a big world tour next year.

She said: 'Ooh, do you know what, I wish, I wish. I think we all do, like all artists including myself with my solo stuff, we're just having to wait and see what happens.

'You know, the Spice shows are so huge and so many tours have been moved to next year. We're talking about it constantly so as soon as we have any news on that front I will let you know.'

In April, Mel C again hinted she would love to see the group head back on the road, following the huge success of their UK reunion tour last year.

Only recently, Emma revealed that all five of the Spice Girls reunited for a socially-distanced walk in the woods.

Speaking on her Sunday evening Heart FM radio show, Emma told listeners that herself, Mel B and Victoria were joined by Mel C and Geri Horner for a hike.

Referring to the COVID-19 lockdown, Baby Spice said: 'As things slowly, slowly start to get back to normal and we've all started to meet up with friends again haven't we?

'Which is strange… I actually started to think I would never see them again… well unless it was on Zoom calls. And this week, yes, I finally got to meet up with Geri, Mel B, Mel C and Victoria!

'Now you may think we propped up a bar somewhere or had drinks in the garden but no! We went on a social distancing walk in the woods, yes!'
