Does Babs know? Bradley Cooper is the spitting image of Hollywood producer and Streisand ex Jon Peters as he films new movie in LA

They say that everyone has a doppelganger somewhere in the world.

And acquaintances of famed Hollywood producer and former hairdresser Jon Peters could be forgiven for doing a double take when photos surfaced earlier this week of Bradley Cooper on the set of the new Paul Thomas Anderson movie.

For Cooper's character, it turns out, was straight out of Peters' 1970s past, from the hairstyle and beard to his white shirt and trousers and even the medallion necklace.

Little is known about filmmaker Anderson's latest project except that it is set in LA's San Fernando Valley in the 1970s and centers on a high school student who is also a child actor.

But with the revelation that Cooper's character appears to be a doppelganger for Peters, one might hazard a guess as to his role in the plot.

It is Anderson's fourth movie set in the Valley after Boogie Nights, Magnolia and Punch Drunk Love.

Industry bigwig: Peters, left, and producing partner Peter Guber racked up a string of box office hits in the 1980s including Flashdance, The Color Purple, Witches of Eastwick, Gorillas in the Mist, Rain Man and Batman (pictured at the LA premiere in 1989)

Peters was working as a hairstylist at his family's salon on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills when he met Streisand in 1973, making a wig for her to wear in her comedy 1974 For Pete's Sake.

The two embarked on a relationship that lasted until 1982 during which time Peters developed a career as a producer.

He produced Streisand's studio album Butterfly, released in 1974, and was credited as a producer on her 1976 remake of A Star Is Born.

Cooper, of course, made another remake of A Star Is Born with Lady Gaga in the lead female role in 2018 which earned eight Academy Award nominations. Peters has a producer credit on Cooper's movie since he owns the rights to the 1976 film.

Peters and producing partner Peter Guber had a string of 1980s hits including Flashdance, The Color Purple, Witches of Eastwick, Gorillas in the Mist, Rain Man and Batman.  They went on to Sony Pictures from 1989 to 1991.

Peters is also famous for his love life that included four marriages including one to actress Lesley Ann Warren and a disputed fifth marriage earlier this year to Pamela Anderson.

So far, Cooper is the only confirmed star attached to Anderson's new project that's being kept tightly under wraps.

For the scenes shot Sunday night on location at a gas station, the actor, 45, was dressed in a loose-fitting white shirt and white cotton flares and sported a shaggy brown wig and a full beard.

The production was clearly abiding by strict protocols as the coronavirus pandemic continues.

Crew members wore face masks and shields as protection against the spread of the virus.

When the pandemic hit in March and forced a shutdown in Hollywood, Cooper had been filming Nightmare Alley for Guillermo del Toro in Toronto, Canada.

He also has another directorial feature in the works; he's set to direct himself in a Leonard Bernstein biopic for Netflix.
