Trump lawsuit verdict: Donald Trump won a heated court fight today when a federal jury in Chicago awarded no damages to an 87-year-old Evanston grandmother who sued the TV celebrity over a disputed condo deal at his high-rise Chicago hotel.
Goldberg claimed Trump offered her a profit-sharing plan at Chicago’s Trump International Hotel & Tower if she bought condos there. She says he reneged after committing to buy. Trump’s attorneys argued Goldberg signed a contract allowing Trump to change the terms.
Jacqueline Goldberg testified the real estate mogul pulled a fast one by yanking financial incentives after she had plunked down a $500,000 deposit on two condos at Trump International Hotel and Tower.
During closing arguments Wednesday, Goldberg’s lawyers asked the jury for $6 million in damages.
The six-woman, two-man jury deliberated for 90 minutes Wednesday and a few additional hours Thursday before reaching its verdict.
Goldberg’s attorney, Shelly Kulwin, dropped his head in disappointment as the verdict was announced in U.S. District Judge Amy St. Eve’s courtroom.
