Will.i.am admits: Will.i.am of Black Eyed Peas fame admitted Tuesday to using a stolen beat in his new collaboration with singer Chris Brown. Will.i.am called into the KIIS FM morning radio show on April 23 to shed light on accusations and rumors that he committed copyright infringement admitting that despite his best intentions, he may be guilty.
Where Will.i.am admits his role in the resulting "fiasco", Chris Brown claims he doesn't know anything about it. Read his full response to the issue and get more details below the jump.
Will.i.am Admits Song Theft, Downplays Feud with Arty and Mat Zo
Earlier this month, popular house music producer Arty openly accused Will.i.am of pirating beats from his track, "Rebound", which Arty produced with Mat Zo, to use on Will's track, "Let's Go", which features Brown. Brown responded to the accusations directly, tweeting his confusion and disbelief in typical Chris Brown fashion. "I don't even know who Mat Zo or Arty is...I don't listen to that s--t."
Chris Brown may or may not have had anything to do with the stolen beat, or even know who the musicians in question are, but it appears Will.i.am is ready to fess up and make nice with the duo. "I'm a fan of Arty. I think he's great and the world needs to know...how talented those guys are."
While Will.i.am admits he may have used a beat that wasn't his, he also stated that he actually wrote "their instrumental" (Arty and Mat Zo's) and that the song "theft" was more a "licensing issue" than outright robbery. "It's sad that it's turned into a fiasco, but hopefully it's resolved," Will.i.am said Tuesday.
What do you think? Listen to both beats here, and tell us: was this simply a musical misunderstanding, or were Arty and Mat Zo ripped off? Sound off in the comments below!
