India.Arie skin lightening: Arie alleged skin lightening is the buzz online today, as the R&B singer's latest publicity pictures raises a few eyebrows. While India.Arie is laughing off the reports that she's lightening her skin, her latest pictures seem to tell a different story, according to the Washington Post on March 29, 2013.

The reason there's so much attention drawn to India.Arie's new lighter appearing skin color is because the singer is famous for songs about being “authentic and celebrating one's true self.” Her latest photo shots for her song “Cocoa Butter” shows that her once dark brown complexion is quite a few shades lighter.

Skin lightening brings back memories of the late Michael Jackson, whose skin tone lightened to a much paler shade. He too rejected the rumors that he was lightening his skin, but the proof was in the pictures. India.Arie took to Twitter yesterday and denied the accusations saying that she has no desire to bleach her skin because “she loves herself and her brown skin.”

Could it be her skin is getting lighter for another reason, like the theories that had Jackson's skin losing pigment for some odd reason. Could this be the case with this singer? No, it is nothing that mysterious. India.Arie was just a victim of lighting on the set of her photo shoot.

The R&B singer did offer up an explanation for her face appearing lighter than usual. She said it was the “magnificent lighting” that turned her a lighter shade in the photos. She also welcomed the conversation and would like to keep it going on the issue of racism and colorism in the black community.”
