Dog pack suspected in death of 14-year-old UK girl

Dog pack suspected in death of 14-year-old UK girl. The body of 14-year-old Jade Anderson was found near a friend's house Tuesday in the Great Manchester area of the U.K., covered in wounds consistent with a dog attack.

An autopsy will be performed to determine the exact cause of death, Reuters reports.

Officials have said the teenager was visiting the house in Chaucer Grove, Atherton, near Wigan, and was alone with a pack of dogs, believed to include two bull mastiffs and two Staffordshire bull terriers, reports CBS News partner Sky News in the U.K.

Four animals were shot dead by police and a fifth was contained.

A neighbor, Joshua Thomas, told Reuters he believes she was attacked for the food she was carrying, saying: "She's run to the shop to get a pie, and when she's come back, she's come in with pie and the dogs went for it."

There had been no recent complaints about aggressive dogs in the area, according to Sky News.

However, after the attack, officers said they were confronted by dogs they described as "aggressive" and "out of control."

Norman Bradbury, a local councillor, told Sky News the whole community was in shock.

He said: "We need to establish what occurred with this horrible incident and how it an be avoided in future but we have to wait for the police to investigate what happened, how Jade died and the circumstances."
