Suspect, 23, is on the run from police after opening fire at a Kansas nightclub killing a 34-year-old father and injuring five others, after he was kicked out the club for fighting

Police are seeking a 23-year-old man who allegedly shot and killed a father of two, and injured five others at a Kansas nightclub that he had been kicked out of early Tuesday.

Wichita police identified the suspect in the shooting as Keshawn Dawson, who they said had been involved in a 'disturbance' that became 'physical' at the Enigma Club & Lounge in downtown Wichita, and was subsequently escorted out of the building.

A short time later, at around 12.38am, police said Dawson allegedly returned with a semi-automatic handgun, and began shooting through the glass doors and windows at the front of the club, killing 34-year-old Preston Spencer of Wichita, and injuring five women.

After he opened fire, Dawson then left in dark-colored vehicle which was being driven by another individual, Wichita Police Capt. Jason Stephens said at a news conference Tuesday afternoon.

Police are still seeking his whereabouts, he said, and were investigating whether there was any relation between Dawson and Spencer.

In addition to being sought for the shooting, Stephens said Dawson is wanted on two Sedgwick County warrants, and had been prohibited from possessing a firearm.

Stephens was unable to specify what the warrants were related to.

The five other victims, ranging in age from 22 to 40, sustained what Stephens said were 'life-threatening' injuries to their legs, arms and lower back in the shooting.

As of Tuesday afternoon, he said all were expected to survive, and some had already been discharged from the hospital.

Spencer's wife, Kendra, shared a statement following her husband's death.

'Preston was one of the greatest gifts I was blessed to have, and he gave me two beautiful children to share this life with,' she told KSN.

'There is nothing that can bring him back, but he will live on in the legacy that he leaves behind.'

On social media Spencer's mother, June, expressed her grief over the death of her son.

'I never imagined I would ever have to post this,' she wrote on Facebook.

In his final social media post made on Saturday Spencer wished his son, Julian, (pictured) a happy fifth birthday.
