A man accused of fleeing from police at a Covid-19 stop before snatching an officer's gun during a dramatic arrest has been hit with a string of charges.
The man, 32, was driving a Ford Focus in Surry Hills, in Sydney's inner-city, on Friday night when he was stopped as part of ongoing Covid-19 compliance checks.
Police allege the man refused to wind down his window, and sped away as one officer ripped open his back door and ordered him to stop.

The Maroubra man led police on a dangerous pursuit before running into traffic at the intersection of Cleveland and Boundary Streets.
As police attempted to remove him from the car, the man allegedly took hold of an officer's firearm which was holstered.
He was set upon by more officers and taken to Surry Hills Police Station where he was charged with a string of charges related to the alleged pursuit and arrest.
The 32-year-old Maroubra man was refused bail and appeared at Parramatta Bail Court on Saturday.
