'I blamed everything on music': Anne-Marie reveals she planned to QUIT singing before lockdown gave her headspace to write another album

She shot to stardom with smash hits including Ciao Adios and Do It Right after starting her career with Rudimental. 

And Anne-Marie revealed on Sunday that she almost quit music after self-esteem struggles and stress in the spotlight made her unhappy. 

The 30-year-old pop star told The Sun: 'I blamed everything on music. Music was my life, so I couldn’t disconnect the unhappiness in my life from that.'

Anne-Marie revealed she had sat down with her manager and told her she wanted to quit music altogether, admitting it was a horrible moment.

The star told of how she was constantly crying, saying: 'I had no energy and no love for myself or anyone else. 

The pop sensation's album Speak Your Mind was the biggest-selling debut of 2018, with her tracks Ciao Adios and 2002 becoming top 10 hits. 

'I should have been revelling in every moment and in all of the success, so it was hard to admit that I wasn’t enjoying it. I had loads of guilt about that,' she added.

Anne-Marie said she also felt guilt for earning large amounts of money when there were other people without out it but that her biggest struggle was the pressure of the industry.

But lockdown happily provided Anne-Marie with the headspace and clarity she needed to continue with her successful career. 

She also began seeing a therapist which helped her overcome her struggles and allowed for her creativity to shine through as she started writing songs again.   

Anne-Marie's next studio album is a direct consequence of those sessions and therefore is aptly titled Therapy.

The candid interview comes after Anne-Marie revealed she ghosted the England footballer Jack Grealish in an interview on Capital radio on Friday. 

The confession came out as the pop star played a game called Mute and Boot with the breakfast show's host Roman Kemp. 

When asked who she last ghosted was, the 2002 hitmaker said: 'Oh my god, this is so bad, I'm sorry to everyone I'm going to say. Ronan Keating…Jack Grealish…' 

The radio show co-host Sian Jay was left in disbelief when Anne-Marie admitted to also leaving social media star Salt Bae on read, saying: 'Have some respect will you!'
