Vicky McClure has her makeup touched up while clad in full bomb disposal operative uniform as she films Jed Mercurio drama Trigger Point

She's taken on the role of DI Kate Fleming in Jed Mercurio's much-loved drama Line Of Duty for the last nine years.

Yet Vicky McClure changed things up - but only slightly - as she transformed from a policewoman to a bomb disposable operative while filming Jed's latest project,  Trigger Point, in Essex on Monday.   

The actress, 38, is set to star in the upcoming drama as a front line officer called Lana Washington and looked ready for action in a helmet and goggles.

Looking serious as she received a makeup touch up, Vicky sported an all-black costume, which had 'Explosives Officer' emblazoned across the chest.  

The upcoming series focuses on counter terrorism policing and the extraordinary work of the Metropolitan Police Bomb Disposal Squad. 

Trigger Point will see a terrorist campaign threaten the capital over the summer with the bomb disposal operatives, known as 'Expos', at the forefront of urgent efforts to find out who is behind the bombings before fatalities escalate.   

Despite her serious role, Vicky appeared to be having fun on set too as she hopped onto a police motorbike between takes and laughed with her fellow cast member.

Vicky looked upbeat as she stripped off her protective clothing into a plain black T-shirt and hopped onto the motorbike. 

She then sat and chatted with her fellow cast member with her hair tied up in a top knot.  

Vicky is starring in Trigger Point alongside Adrian Lester, who will play fellow bomb disposal operative Joel Nutkins.

Vicky's character Lana and Adrian's Joel are both ex-military with the two close friends after serving together in Afghanistan.

Vicky walked through the set in black trousers a matching T-shirt and comfortable black shoes. 

The star chatted to her colleagues ahead of filming each scene as she got into character for the steely drama. 

She stood patiently as an entourage of assistants gathered around her while her concealer was touched up. 

Once Vicky removed the protective armour she then had her hair re-styled to avoid any hat hair.

Earlier this week when first look pictures from the show were announced Vicky rushed to Twitter to show her excitement for the project. 

She wrote:  'Meet Lana Washington & Joel Nutkins! We’re off to an explosive start!! Can’t wait to reveal more as we go along…we’ve got an incredible cast!! 

'And the crew are creating absolute gold! Trigger Point!! @ITV @HTMTelevision @AdrianLester #triggerpoint.' 

The six-part thriller series has been commissioned for ITV by Head of Drama, Polly Hill, who will oversee production from the channel's perspective.

The exciting behind the scenes snaps from Trigger Point come after Jed revealed last month that it was too soon for him to say if Line Of Duty would continue. 

However, he hinted that there is 'clearly potential' for a further plot about Owen Teale's character, Philip Osborne.

While Jed is unsure if it will be the last-ever season, he confirmed it is possible he could further explore the Chief Constable (Owen, 60) in a future storyline.

When asked if series six could be considered 'a finale, or a clearing-out of the past' ahead of a fresh start, he replied to Den Of Geek: 'I'd say it's too soon. It's too soon to draw that conclusion. It could be either of those, or it could be something different.'
