Teenager, 18, is charged over hit-and-run crash that seriously injured dog walker, 53, and killed her beloved pet Staffie

A teenager has been charged following a horrific hit-and-run crash in which a dog walker was seriously injured and her beloved pet Staffie was killed.

The victim named locally and online as Patricia Faulkner, 53, was taking her eight-year-old pet dog Millie for a walk on July 22, last year when a car ploughed into her.

Harrowing footage of the incident showed the woman walking her dog before the black Renault Clio collided with them, throwing them into a hedge.

She survived the incident, with a broken leg and a gash the length of her calf but her beloved dog sadly died at the side of the road.

Kallum Aish now 18, was 17-years-old at the time and arrested on August 7 last year but has now been charged with several offences.

Aish, from Finchley Road, Kingstanding, Birmingham, has been charged with causing serious injury by dangerous driving, failing to stop at the scene of an accident, driving with no insurance or license, criminal damage and cannabis possession.

He is set to appear at Birmingham Magistrates Court on January 28 for the first time.

CCTV footage showed the pair being hit at 5pm on Doe Bank Lane, Great Barr, Birmingham.

Immediately after the crash, the clip showed the driver and passengers fleeing the car and rushing to get into another further up the road. 

Patricia told The Express and Star : 'It was such a shock - you don’t expect to nip out of the house to walk the dog and end up hospitalised. Coming home without Millie was heartbreaking – she had been with us for four years.' 

The footage released by West Midlands Police back in August went viral and has been shared thousands of times and watched by millions of people.

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: 'We wish the woman injured in the crash all the best in her continued recovery.'

At the time of Aish's arrest, a police spokesman said: 'We've arrested a teenage boy as part of our investigation into a shocking collision in which a dog walker was knocked down and her pet killed.

'Investigating officers released footage of the collision as part of an appeal for information earlier this week.

'The clip showed the horrifying moment a woman and her pet dog were hit by a car in Doe Bank Lane on Wednesday, 22 July.

'We've had a phenomenal response to our plea for information. The footage has been shared thousands of times and it's been watched by millions of people.

'Lots of you have been in touch with really helpful information, and we're now following up on a number of leads.

'Earlier today we arrested a 17-year-old boy from the Kingstanding area of Birmingham after he was identified as the potential driver of the Renault Clio by members of the public.

'He's been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and is currently in police custody where he will be questioned by investigating officers.'

A petition was also set up calling for urgent safety measures to be implemented on Doe Bank Lane, Pheasey and signed by more than 900 people on September 9, 2020.

The petition called for traffic-calming measures and safety measures to be installed on the 20mph road after the horror crash.
