Multimillionaire Vanderbilt heir Anderson Cooper is branded a snob for saying the MAGA mob rioters will 'go back to the Olive Garden and to the Holiday Inn that they're staying at' to celebrate their attack on the Capitol

People from across the political spectrum have slammed Anderson Cooper's 'out of touch' jibe claiming Trump fanatics would be going back to 'Olive Garden and to the Holiday Inn they're staying at' to relish in their assault on the Capitol Wednesday.

Cooper - who inherited part of his multimillion dollar fortune from his mother Gloria Vanderbilt - was making the comments while showing scenes of the chaos that unfolded after President Trump told his supporters to march for the Capitol.

'Look at them, they're high-fiving each other for this deplorable display of completely unpatriotic, completely against law and order, completely unconstitutional behavior, it's stunning,' he said.

'And they're going to go back to the Olive Garden and to the Holiday Inn they're staying at, or the Garden Marriott, and they're going to have some drinks and talk about the great day they had in Washington. They stood up for nothing other than mayhem.'

Gloria Vanderbilt's fortune is estimated to have once been as high as $200million, but it is believed that Cooper received just $1.5million in her will, according to the New York Post.

Both Olive Garden and the Holiday Inn began trending on Twitter as people shared the clip, with some finding Cooper's remarks hilarious while a lot of other folk took issue with his statements.

'Anderson Cooper just made fun of middle class people eating at Olive Garden on live TV,' said one Twitter user. 'He inherited his mother Gloria Vanderbilt's $200 million fortune. The elites are beyond detached from the reality of any common American.'

'Anderson Cooper - a literal Vanderbilt - slandering Olive Garden... this better start the class war fr. let's f*****g go,' another person stated, expressing similar sentiments.

Comedian Tim Young added: 'FYI: Comments like Anderson Cooper's 'Olive Garden' line is why Trump supporters want to fight you...'

'Anderson Cooper could've left Olive Garden out of this,' Ryan Glasspiegel said. 'Great breadsticks, solid value, welcoming for kids. No need to be smug and elitist here.'

But on the other side, people expressed disappointment that Cooper would downplay just how wealthy some of the mob were.

'Anderson Cooper's classist dog whistle that they're going to 'return to the holiday inn &olive garden' as if these ppl don't have money to fly across the country with weapons and fireworks and arts and crafts materials in the COVID economy lol... militia is a middle class affair,' said one person.

Tera Hunter added: 'Apparently @andersoncooper quipped earlier today that the rioters should go back to the Olive Garden and the Holiday Inn. They actually stayed at the @GrandHyattDC. The media still refuses to admit that Trump supporters are overwhelmingly white middle class and affluent.'

'When Anderson Cooper says these people go to 'Olive Garden & Holiday Inn' he is circulating the cliché that the racists in the US belong to the lower orders... In fact, they are the affluent, university-educated business-owners and professionals who can afford the Grand Hyatt,' asserted Laleh Khalili.

One user pointed to all the items the Trump supporters carried with them to the attack on the Capitol to show that they definitely had money.

'All those assault rifles are $2500 a piece!!! Glocks go for around $600 each. Then $65,000 for the pickup truck,' the person said. And, high capacity magazines at $50 a pop. Plus the tactical gear at $800 for the full cosplay outfit. They're rich.'

There were those that defended Cooper and the comment, claiming it was a diss about the dining standards of Trump supporters.

'It's not classist. He's thrashing them because they are the type who'd think Olive Garden was good Italian,' said one person.

Another added: 'Stop calling Anderson Cooper classist. It's not like he said the Golden Corral and the Motel 6 (what I would have said ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ) #OliveGarden.'

Several people still found the comment to be hilarious, sharing memes and gifs.

Austin Stevison said: 'I just made baked ziti tonight inspired by Olive Garden and now I gotta throw it out bc Anderson Cooper just dragged Olive Garden on national tv.'

'Anderson Cooper just said on CNN that the terrorists are gonna go to Olive Garden after they leave the capitol...not on my watch,' declared Rose Dommu.

Another user chimed: 'Anderson Cooper just said 'these people are going to go back to their Olive Gardens and Holiday Inns' and I nearly choked on my breadstick.'
