Mother-of-three prison officer, 32, is JAILED for three years over 'risky' affair with baby-killing double murderer who she also got to beat up her jail warder ex

A female prison officer was today jailed for three years after she had a 'f***ing risky' sexual relationship with a convicted double murderer who killed his girlfriend and their baby daughter.

Over a one month period Lauren McIntyre, 32, sent explicit messages and even facilitated her convict lover beating a fellow prison officer, whom she had previously had an affair with.

Appearing at Isle of Wight Crown Court on Thursday, the mother of four-month-old baby twins and a five-year-old was heard sobbing hysterically as she was jailed.

She claimed she first began the affair with prisoner Andrew Roberts in a bid to uncover intelligence but it then spiralled out of control.

Roberts was convicted in 2003 of strangling Louise L'Homme and their eight-month-old daughter Tia at their home in Rhondda, South Wales.

He fled the scene, was arrested five days later and was just 22 years old when he was sentenced to two life terms at Swansea Crown Court.

He has been serving his time at HMP Isle of Wight's Albany Prison.

McIntyre formed a relationship with him there after she was assigned to be his key worker.

Prosecutor Gary Venturi today told the court: 'She said she was effectively playing along with Roberts by allowing him to talk to her inappropriately but she insisted there was no physical contact...

'She said it was to set up the notion that he was a prisoner who could be used as a source of information.

'She said she did not disclose that Roberts had a mobile phone as a way of building rapport...'

Mr Venturi said that McIntyre, of Ryde, Isle of Wight, claimed she gave the murderer her phone number to pass a 'test' and show she could be trusted.

The court heard she also claimed that was why she didn't delete any of the text messages.

One of the messages from Roberts read: 'Today was real hot and risky but I'm so needing you.'

McIntyre, who has a partner of six years, replied: 'So f***ing risky. I like it though.'

In another message she said: 'I still keep remembering the first time you kissed me.'

McIntyre also admitted giving Roberts the phone number of fellow prison officer Samuel Laidler as the pair wanted to try to 'set him up' as the 'corrupt' officer on the wing.

On the day of the assault she sent a message to Roberts, who was 'angry and jealous' of Mr Laidler's previous relationship with McIntyre, saying 'do what you gotta do'.

Sentencing her today, Judge Roger Hetherington said: 'As part of your training you would have received induction training including on the prevention of corruption and inappropriate relationships.

'It is absolutely plain that you knew perfectly well what you were doing was completely against both the letter and the spirit of the rules that applied to your employment...

'Even if you initially gained his confidence as a means of exploiting wider corruption you quickly moved on to having a close relationship with him and in that you passed on information to him and developed a passionate sexual relationship.

'You also allowed another prison officer, with whom earlier you have been having an affair, to be drawn into an attack so he could be assaulted by Roberts...

'There is no doubt due to the gravity of the offending only a significant and immediate custodial sentence can be justified.'

Briony Molyneux, defending McIntyre, said she had been 'extremely naive' and had been 'drawn into Roberts' world'.

McIntyre admitted four counts of wilfully neglecting to perform her duty and wilfully misconducting herself between November and December 2018 in a way which amounted to an abuse of the public's trust.

She also admitted failing to report to prison authorities he had a mobile phone, giving him her mobile number and communicating with him via mobile phone and sending him a photo of herself.

HMP Isle of Wight, Albany Barracks, is a Category B men's prison, with a population of around 1,000. Almost 98 per cent of those prisoners are sex offenders.
