Tear-jerking moment man told he might never walk again defies the odds to get down on one knee and propose to his girlfriend

This is the heartwarming moment a man who was told he may never walk again defied odds by getting down on one knee to propose to his girlfriend.

Brandon Devonshire, 25, from Rome, Pennsylvania, proposed to partner Crickett LeVance, 25, in the personal training gym in hospital. 

Footage shows him being helped to kneel on a padded cushion, resting his upper body on the back of a chair, before pulling a ring out.

One of his personal trainers at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in Williamsport sneaks him the ring when he is in position. 

She then asks if Crickett will come round to face him before Brandon opens the ring box and proposes on August 11. 

Brandon was crushed by a tree leaving him with a ruptured vertebrae and spinal cord damage

Brandon, from Rome, Pennsylvania, was crushed by a tree on July 30, leaving him with a ruptured vertebrae and spinal cord damage. 

He was cutting a tree that had a piece of logging equipment resting against it - the weight shift causing the tree to fall on him. 

He required two rods and eight screws to be installed into his spine for stabilization, after the accident left him paralyzed.

But over the weeks and months that followed, he began to regain movement and started to work with physical therapists at the hospital. 

His girlfriend had been at his side through the rehab process and he wanted to repay her for her support.  

Brandon had made basic walking movements before the proposal, but was nervous about getting down on one knee due to his lack of mobility.  

Since then his condition has improved dramatically, and footage shows him walking with crutches in the gym and then downstairs outside.

One of his personal trainers at sneaks him the ring when he is in position after he is kneeling down. He began to regain movement after being paralyzed after a tree fell on him 

In the very last clip, footage shows Brandon running forwards and backwards in the street unaided.    

He said: 'I want people who see my story to know, don't ever let anything stop you no matter what they say - in the end it's up to you. 

'I wasn't supposed to walk but here I am. True love does still exist, and nothing can take that from you as well.' 

He added: 'The nerve-racking part was getting down on one knee, it was a long way down and I was barely mobile at the time. 

'The response to the moment has been phenomenal. My little family has really pulled together and what better time for me to have that happen.'
