'Did the fly from the VP debate write this?' CDC claims that COVID was NOT its most viewed story of 2020 - it was about malaria and mosquitoes - and the virus was not even the second most read

COVID-19 was not the 'most viewed' story on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Center for Global Health website for 2020 - with a story about malaria and one about HIV in Africa getting more attention than the most read coronavirus story.

The list of top 5 viewed stories from the CDC did include three related to COVID-19, with the most read being about the agency's global response to the coronavirus pandemic.

But the most viewed story was actually one in recognition of World Mosquito Day 2020 on August 20, highlighting the 'troubling spread' of the Anopheles stephens mosquito.

This particular mosquito has quickly spread from parts of Asia to Africa after it was first detected in parts of Eastern Africa in 2012, thriving in man-made habitats and actively entering houses, according to the CDC.

The second most viewed story on the website was about the 'considerable progress' made toward the UNAIDs goal in South Africa, which has the highest number of people living with HIV in the world.

A video about COVID-19's impact on the Central America Region was the most viewed clip posted by the agency, the CDC shared on the Center for Global Health's website. The most read blog post: how to best approach preventing disease.
