Chilling moment man chases a car down a quiet street before picking up a pole and pegging it at the windscreen - but not everyone is convinced it's real

Incredible footage has captured the horrific moment a man charged at a reversing car in Sydney's north-west before throwing a light post at the bumper.

Video of the bizarre encounter was posted on the Dash Cam Owners Australia Facebook page on Monday morning.

The footage shows a driver travelling down a residential street in West Ryde just after 11pm on Saturday when a pedestrian wearing a flannelette shirt wanders onto the road at an intersection.

The white car slowly moves towards the man, who edges out into the middle of the road before charging at the driver.

The motorist puts the car in reverse and shoots backwards up the road as the man follows in hot pursuit up the quiet street.

The running man then turns to the road side and pulls a small white hazard marking light post out of the ground before returning to his chase as the driver continues to flee up the road.

He then throws the light post at the car, which bounces off the front bumper towards a wire fence around a tree on the side of the road.

As the man moves off the road to collect his weapon, the driver seizes his opportunity and speeds forward down the other side of the road.

The man grabs the light post and turns to chase before the driver exits passed him and zooms to safety beyond the intersection.

The caption on the post said the driver was 'attacked by a random' but many comments on the post did not believe that was the case.

'I highly doubt the randomness. The driver stopped way too early and was way too cautious towards this person,' one comment reads.

'They p***ed him off somehow.'

Others commented that they would have behaved differently if they were the driver in the situation.

'Reverse would not have been my first choice for gear selection,' one person wrote.

'My bull bar would have taught that guy a valuable lesson that night,' another added.

'Nothing a little love tap at 80km wouldn’t have fixed,' another user posted.

A NSW Police spokesperson said they were unaware of the incident as no report was made.
