Colorado cops investigate 'possible serial killing' after multiple human remains were found at two properties in tiny town in the San Luis Valley

An investigation into a possible serial killing is underway in Colorado after the remains of multiple people were discovered in the San Luis Valley.

The Colorado Bureau of Investigation announced the probe in a news release on Tuesday.

An undisclosed number of bodies were found at two properties near Las Sauces, a tiny rural community near the New Mexico border in Conejos County.

'The have been recovered and are currently being analyzed as part of the identification process,' the CBI release said.

'The property owners are not currently living at these properties.'

The Denver Gazette, which was first to report on the case prior to the CBI release, said that investigators believe the bodies could belong to 'several people' who have been missing in Conejos County since August.

The investigation is being spearheaded by the CBI with help from the Saguache County Sheriff's office and the police departments of Alamosa and Monte Vista.

'There are numerous agencies and a lot of law enforcement involved in this investigation,' Monte Vista Police Chief George Dingfelder told the Gazette.

Dingfelder said officials will field questions from the media at a press conference via Zoom on Wednesday morning.

Alamosa Police Chief Ken Anderson was also tight-lipped when asked about the case. He declined to confirmed whether any of the remains were linked to missing persons cases in his town.

'We are a tight community,' Anderson said. 'Any missing persons case is a concern.'

A serial killing is defined as a series of three or more murders committed by the same person or persons.

Eleven people were reported missing across the state of Colorado in August 2020, according to the national database NamUs.

That man, 39-year-old Wilbert Archuleta, was found dead in Las Sauces on September 19, according to the Conejos County Citizen.

While officials have not speculated about the identities of any persons connected to the possible serial killing in the San Luis Valley, the CBI did say they do not think it has any association with the disappearance of missing Colorado mom Suzanne Morphew.

However, the CBI said: 'All possibilities are being considered.'

Morphew's disappearance from her home in Chaffee County in May has gripped the state and the nation for months as a multi-state search continues.

Anyone with information about the remains found in Las Sauces is urged to contact the CBI tip line at 719-270-0210.
