Father, 41, who killed his own three-year-old son and maimed his daughter, 7, in horror smash while racing at 100mph on M62 is convicted of causing death by dangerous driving

A father who killed his own three-year-old son and maimed his daughter while racing on the motorway before crashing has been convicted of death by dangerous driving.

Israr Muhammed, 41, was travelling in a Honda Civic with his family of five when he began racing along the M62 with another Civic driver. 

Muhammed, from Batley, West Yorkshire, was speeding at more than 100mph before losing control and careering over the embankment and into trees.

At times during the chase the vehicles were just metres apart, a court heard. 

The crash, on July 1, 2018, killed Muhammed’s three-year-old son while his seven-year-old daughter suffered serious and life-changing facial injuries.

Their mother suffered multiple head and internal injuries and was in a coma for more than a month following the collision.

Muhammed was charged with causing death by dangerous driving, two counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and causing death whilst uninsured.

The defendant was convicted on October 1 by a jury at Hull Crown Court following a nine day trial.

The other driver, 29-year-old Adam Molloy from Normanton, failed to stop at the scene on the day of the collision.

He was subsequently arrested and charged with causing death by dangerous driving and two counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

Molloy was also found guilty on all counts.

Humberside Police’s Serious Collisions Unit used dashcam footage from an independent witness to establish the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Both defendants will be sentenced on November 2.
