Airport explosion resulted in concourse evacuation: Flights Diverted

Airport explosion: The Atlanta airport explosion has resulted in brief concourse evacuation and diversion of flights, but there are no reported injuries. CNN reported the details on this June 11 of the incident that happened at the Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport Tuesday morning.

Around 8:40 a.m. a small electrical explosion happened near gate D21. There was minor property damage, but there was no fire. People within Concourse D were evacuated to Concourse E, and arriving aircraft were redirected to other gates. After a small delay, the Atlanta Fire Department cleared the concourse to reopen. There was a small power outage in certain areas of the concourse, however.

The airport explosion happened at a ramp level maintenance shop, but the cause has not yet been made public. The Atlanta police are investigating and so far the FBI is not sharing any additional information. Though some might immediately wonder if this was somehow terror related, FBI Special Agent Stephen Emmett has said that does not seem to be the case.

Luckily nobody was injured and there were no significant delays in the airport explosion. Those at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport say now that everything seems back to normal.
