After being in New York's cold weather for so long Katharine McPhee could not wait to get some sun on her skin.
However, her need for a tan did not do her style any favours.
The Smash actress did not look her fashionable best as she stepped out in Los Angeles, California on Thursday.

star had only just flown into town, having just performed Thursday
night on American Idol - the show that launched her career after she
finished the runner-up in the fifth season - with One Republic.
Just a few hours before the gig, the 29-year-old stopped in at a coffee store with a friend.
For her outing the actress wore a less-than-flattering midriff flashing striped tank with super distressed light blue jeans.

The star accessorised the look with a rose gold necklace and a pair of patchwork denim heels.
The young singer also showed off her new much shorter hair cut.
Wrapping up the final episode of the New York-based series Smash, Katherine made a bee line for the hairdressers hacking off her locks and lighting them with ombre blonde ends.
Her friend had much more success with her edgy look, wearing washed out leopard print jeans, a vintage Harley Davidson T-shirt, nude heels and a large green hat.

Katherine's outfit may have not worked it did give the singer turned
actress a chance to flash her washboard abs - something she is very
proud of.
Kat showed off her abs on April's cover of Woman's Health and said she tries to wear outfits which allow her to feature her toned tummy.
She told the magazine: 'I like boho with a gypsy twist; that's sort of my way to push it.
'But I'm totally into the high-waisted skirt with the peekaboo top where your tummy peeks out.'
