Knighthood for sacked Attorney General Geoffrey Cox QC… and a £1million Conservative Party donor

Former Attorney General Geoffrey Cox QC was awarded a knighthood yesterday, despite being sacked from the Cabinet by Boris Johnson earlier this year. The MP and barrister reportedly provoked the wrath of the Prime Minister ahead of his reshuffle in February. He also faced controversy last year when, as Britain's most senior legal officer, he advised the Government that Parliament could be prorogued – only for the decision to be overturned by the Supreme Court. Mr Cox also spoke at Mr Johnson's launch to become Conservative Party leader. Guy Weston, a major donor of at least £1million to the party, is knighted for his services to philanthropy and charity.  Former Attorney General Geoffrey Cox QC was awarded a knighthood yesterday, despite being sacked from the Cabinet by Boris Johnson earlier this year. 'SoHo Karen' 22, who falsely accused 14-year-old black boy of stealing her phone in NYC hotel lobby claims SHE was assaulted during dispute as his family publicly calls for her to be charged

The woman dubbed 'SoHo Karen' after she wrongly accused a black teenager of stealing her phone in a New York City hotel now claims that she was assaulted during the altercation and denies racially profiling the boy. The 22-year-old woman, who still has not yet been publicly named, was filmed Saturday by Grammy-winning African American jazz artist Keyon Harrold as she approached his son, Keyon Jr., in the lobby of the boutique Arlo Hotel and tackled him. In the recording, the woman is seen pushing and grabbing at the father and son, allegedly even scratching Keyon Sr's hands as she attempted to snatch his cellphone, wrongly believing it to be hers.  Moments after the scuffle concluded, her phone was reportedly found in an Uber and returned to her by the driver.   While the NYPD and Manhattan District Attorney's Office weigh whether to criminally charge the woman, she spoke to CNN Wednesday to dispute Harrold's account of what happened, insisting 'that's not w

'There's no realistic path to passing $2,000 COVID check relief': Mitch McConnell shoots down yet ANOTHER bid by Dems to up stimulus amount and says 'you won't bully me into it'

Mitch McConnell on Wednesday shot down another attempt by Democrats to pass a standalone bill that would send $2,000 stimulus checks to Americans, saying the Senate won't be 'bullied' into passing it. Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer attempted to bring up a bill passed by Speaker Nancy Pelosi that will increase the $600 checks already approved to the $2,000 amount that President Donald Trump requested.  McConnell objected, stopping the legislation in its tracks, and, instead, touted his own legislation, which has little chance at passing. The continued clash decreases the chances for Americans to see larger stimulus checks as the economy continues to struggle during the coronavirus pandemic.   McConnell used the president as his excuse, arguing the Democratic bill doesn't meet with Trump's request. Along with tripling the check amount, President Trump also wants a repeal of section 230 of tech law and an investigation of election fraud - neither of which is in

Cartel's chief of assassins El Cholo Iván - who was arrested alongside El Chapo is - close to being extradited to US after exhausting appeals in Mexican courts

A former chief enforcer for drug kingpin Joaquín 'El Chapo' Guzmán is close to being extradited to the United States after failing in his appeal to Mexican courts. Orso 'El Cholo Iván' Gastélum has exhausted all of his efforts in preventing the Mexican government from handing him to federal authorities in the U.S., Infobae reported on Tuesday. El Cholo Iván was the security chief of El Chapo's Sinaloa Cartel and allegedly oversaw the criminal organization's assassins. He was captured on January 8, 2016 alongside El Chapo when security forces raided the then-fugitive drug lord's safehouse in the Sinaloa Pacific coast city of Los Mochis, sparking a gun battle that left five cartel members dead and six others arrested. But while El Chapo was extradited to the United States in 2017 before his conviction on drug charges, El Cholo has remained in prison in Mexico. El Cholo's defense team had argued that a 'provisional arrest warrant' and extradition ar

Two American B-52 'Stratofortress' bombers fly over Persian Gulf to warn Iran in anticipation of 'complex attacks' in retaliation for killing of General Solemani one year ago

Iranian General Qassem Soleimani was killed in a US drone strike on January 3, 2020 The United States flew strategic bombers over the Persian Gulf on Wednesday for the second time this month, in a show of force meant to deter Iran from attacking American or allied targets in the Middle East. It came after a senior U.S. military official warned that Iran is planning 'complex' revenge scenarios to avenge the killing of General Qasem Solemani, who died last January 3. The senior officer confirmed Wednesday's flight by two Air Force B-52 'Stratofortress' bombers was in response to signals that Iran may be planning attacks against U.S. allied targets in neighboring Iraq or elsewhere in the region in the coming days, even as President-elect Joe Biden prepares to take office.  The senior officer said that U.S. intelligence has detected recent signs of 'fairly substantive threats' from Iran, and that included planning for possible rocket attacks against U.S. interes
