Real estate agent is accused of attacking his girlfriend and her close friend with a SAMURAI SWORD in the early hours of the morning - before fleeing and trying to hide from cops behind a parked car

A prominent real estate agent has been accused of attacking two women with a samurai sword at his Sydney home. 

Karl Howard, 44, allegedly injured the pair at his property on Ferris Street in Annandale, the city's inner west, at about 5am on Monday.

Police allege the assault began when Howard punched one of the women, 27, in the head.

The other woman, 29, then intervened and was allegedly struck with a samurai sword.   

Howard allegedly fled the scene, while the two women went to a neighbouring residence and called police.

One of the alleged victims is in an intimate relationship with Howard after meeting recently online, according to The Daily Telegraph.

The other woman is her friend. 

The two women were treated by paramedics at the scene and were then taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital , where they remain in a stable condition.  

Police from Leichhardt Police Area Command arrived at the home and established a crime scene.

They seized a number of items for forensic examination, including a samurai sword.

Howard was later arrested on Macquarie Street. Police allege he hid behind a parked car.

The 44-year-old suffered a shoulder injury during his arrest and was taken to RPA under police guard.

Charges are yet to be laid.

Construction workers said a wallet and phone were found in a bin at their work site near the house.  

'They found the phone and wallet in there. We told the police and they came to take them,' worker Dion Kahn told The Daily Telegraph.

'There was blood in there as well.'
