Ring doorbell app catches shocking moment Deliveroo driver dropping off a box of doughnuts steals a pair of trainers from a single mum's doorstep

A young mother has revealed how a Deliveroo courier delivered a box of doughnuts but then helped himself to her expensive trainers which she left on the front doorstep as part of her efforts to make her home Covid safe.

Alessia Leo, 28, had ordered a box of 12 Krispy Kreme doughnuts last Saturday to her home in Worcester Park, Surrey, for herself and her twin boys, Luciano and Santino, two.

The alleged theft was captured on video in which a man clutching a box approaches the front door, picks up a pair of trainers and briefly examines them before putting them out of sight.

He then rings the front doorbell, hands the box over, saying 'thank you' and 'goodbye' before turning around and picking them up from where he had put them as he makes his way into the night.

Ms Leo, who is an NHS 111 advisor, said that she only realised that her trainers had gone missing after opening the front door 30 minutes after the delivery.

After searching for them she then checked her video doorbell only to discover what had happened to them.

She said: 'I was shocked and disgusted. The doughnuts cost me £14 and then I had to pay a Deliveroo charge for getting them delivered but I didn't expect to be the victim of a theft. The Krispy Kremes were delicious but they have cost me a lot of money.

'Sadly, these kinds of things are increasingly happening because so many more people are ordering food to their homes because of the lockdown.'

She added: 'I'm a single mum and these trainers cost me more than £100, which is quite a lot of money to me. I live in a very quiet cul-de-sac and all the neighbours know each other so I was sure it wasn't any of them who would have stolen them.'

Ms Leo said that she leaves all shoes on her front doorstep over concerns about bringing coronavirus germs into her home as one of her twins, Santino, suffers from an immune system deficiency.

She said: 'I've been taking lots of precautions because of Santino's condition and since the start of the pandemic leave all outside shoes at the front doorstep.

'What also worries me is that the Deliveroo man did not have any gloves on and was not wearing his mask properly. I think the company need to make sure that all their couriers are doing their job within Covid guidelines and not stealing from customers.

'It makes you wonder what kind of people they are employing and the type of people who are coming to our homes to deliver food.

'Because people are not going out as much and restaurants and cafes are closed, the food delivery business has really taken off, but the companies need to do a lot more to tackle any problems with their staff.'

Since uncovering the video, Ms Leo has contacted Deliveroo but is still waiting to hear back from the company.

Deliveroo has also been contacted for comment by MailOnline.
