Pregnant woman is allegedly assaulted by a man who started 'randomly punching members of the public'

A man is accused of randomly assaulting several people on a Wollongong street, including a pregnant woman.

About 11.45am on Tuesday officers from Wollongong Police District were patrolling Corrimal Street, Wollongong, when they came across a man allegedly punching members of the public.

Police have been told the man approached a woman - who is seven months pregnant - and deliberately barged into her, knocking her into a fence.

No one was injured as a result of the incident.

A 46-year-old man was arrested and taken to Wollongong Hospital for assessment, before being taken to Wollongong Police Station, where he was charged with common assault.

The man was refused bail and will appear in Wollongong Local Court on Wednesday.
