A police officer has been shot dead on a university campus just outside of Boston sparking a massive gun and explosives battle with two suspects.The dramatic developments came hours after the FBI released photos and video of two suspects in the Boston Marathon bombings, urging the public to help identify the men but warning people not to approach them.A manhunt for the gunmen was launched following the shooting at the Cambridge campus of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).Moments later reports came in of a carjacking and police became involved in a chase.Terrified residents reported hearing a volley of gun shots and several explosions as police ordered them to stay inside.Live news reports said police officers were dealing with explosives left on the ground after the chase in the Watertown area, just west of Cambridge where MIT is located and eight miles to the west of central Boston.Police were told to switch off mobile phones and other electronic devices for fear of setting off explosives.
