Some eight million Americans have fallen below the poverty level since May after federal stimulus money dried up and Congress did not follow up with more relief legislation, according to a new study. Meanwhile, the economic recovery has slowed down as more than 55 million Americans are now earning less than $26,200 a year - which is what the federal government considers the poverty line.  Researchers at Columbia University tracked poverty levels from before the COVID-19 pandemic dealt a devastating blow to the US economy in spring, forcing businesses across many industries to shut down. R. Kelly's attorneys say security video shows prison guards failed to stop the singer from being beaten by a fellow inmate inside Chicago's Metropolitan Correctional Center.   According to a motion filed Friday, Kelly, 53, is suffering 'significant physical and psychological injuries' stemming from the August attack, which his lawyers claim  could have been 'encouraged' by staffers at the facility.  Kelly is being held at the MCC as he awaits trial on several dozen counts of state and federal sexual misconduct charges in Illinois, Minnesota and New York.  An incident report from the US Bureau of Prisons claims Kelly was ambushed by gang member Jeremiah Shane Farmer as he slept on the bottom bunk of his prison cell on August 26.  On that day, Farmer managed to separate from prison guards and enter the Kelly's cell, where he repeatedly stomped on the singer's head. Three people have been taken to hospital following an explosion at a shopping center in Virginia.  Firefighters were called to the scene in Harrisonburg, 60 miles north west of Charlottesville, at around 8:30am on Saturday. Photos and videos on social media showed a strip mall ablaze, being doused with water by fire engines, and smoke shooting 30ft into the sky.
