Virginity tests and 'hymen repair' surgery to be banned over risk of so-called 'honour' killings

England and Wales are set to make virginity testing a criminal offence as campaigners warn the unscientific practice leaves women and girls at risk of so-called 'honour' killings. The procedure involves an examination to assess whether the hymen is intact. This is based on the false but widely held belief that all women and girls' hymens are broken in the first instance of penetrative vaginal sex. The move to criminalise the practice follows a private member's bill introduced by Conservative MP Richard Holden to outlaw the intrusive procedure.  With the backing of the Department of Health and Social Care, the proposals have now been introduced into the Health and Care Bill. The draft legislation also includes for the first time the banning of hymenoplasty - the process by which the hymen is temporarily reconstructed. The procedure is also known as hymen or virginity 'repair'. Under the bill, anyone found to have carried out the procedure would be breaking the la

Scott Morrison reveals what really happened at Engadine McDonald's after his beloved Cronulla Sharks lost the 1997 Grand Final and unveils why his staff taunt him about it

Scott Morrison has finally decreed that he did not soil himself at McDonald's after his beloved Cronulla Sharks lost the 1997 Grand Final. Reports that the Prime Minister of Australia had the unfortunate mishap at a fast food restaurant in Engadine, in south Sydney, 24 years ago started circulating in 2018 following a particularly messy Liberal Party leadership spill. Hip hop artist Joyride dropped the 'news' on Twitter at the time, claiming a number of his friends worked at the store in question and that the situation was 'pretty bad'. Mr Morrison has dodged questions about the supposed incident that stained his reputation over the last three years - until Thursday morning, when he decided to lay the rumours to rest on national radio station KIIS FM. Scott Morrison is an avid Cronulla Sharks fan, and was believed to have soiled himself following his team's tragic loss in 1997 After speaking with hosts Kyle and Jackie O about Australia's worsening Covid-1

That really is one under! Remains of Tudor gardens complete with a water feature are discovered beneath an Essex golf course

The remains of Tudor and Jacobean gardens have been discovered beneath a golf course. Researchers noticed that aerial photographs of Belhus Park Golf Course in Thurrock, Essex, appeared to mirror a 1619 pictorial survey of the former estate and an 18th century painting depicting a bird's eye view of the property. Their evidence suggested that the layout of the former gardens had survived, and a further non-invasive study of the subtle earthworks and shallow buried archaeology by Historic England has confirmed this. The survival of a circular water feature to the west of the former manor house, and the patterns of paths and walls, verified the view of the gardens shown in the late 17th to early 18th century painting. Queensland records three new Covid cases including a 12-year-old and a fully-vaccinated airport worker - forcing restrictions to be extended for a week

Queensland is bracing after three new cases of locally aquired Covid were reported on Thursday morning, including a 12-year-old boy and a fully vaccinated airport worker. The new cases mean the state's mask mandate will extended another week in the south-east. One case was a 12-year-old boy who completed  quarantine in Sydney and flew into Brisbane on QF544 on July 9.  The 12-year-old boy's father, who did not travel to the US, had also now tested positive.  Additionally, a fully vaccinated international airport worker had tested positive. Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk announced the mask mandate would continue for another week for 11 LGAs, including Brisbane City Council, Logan, Moreton Bay, Ipswich, Redlands, Sunshine Coast, Gold Coast, Noosa, Somerset, Lockyer Valley and Scenic Rim.   Restrictions would be eased for Townsville.  A fully vaccinated worker at Brisbane International Airport had tested positive, it was announced on Thursday morning Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk a

Savers lose out as CPI inflation spikes AGAIN to three-year high of 2.5% with fuel and food costs soaring while interest rates remain near record-lows

Fears over inflation mounted today as the CPI rate spiked again to 2.5 per cent - the highest level in nearly three years.  The headline rate for June was up from 2.1 per cent the previous month, with food and motor fuel major factors. The official figure again overshot the expectations of analysts, who had predicted an annual level of around 2.2 per cent. It is the fourth consecutive month in which CPI has increased, although many prices are rising from a low level due to the pandemic. Some analysts are now suggesting that inflation could reach 4 per cent by the end of the year - which would be double the Bank of England's target.  British households will be an average of £206-a-year worse off as a result, the Daily Telegraph calculated. Interest rates for any savings are near record-lows, meaning money in the bank will keep losing value month on month.  Anxiety has been growing about the potential for prices to run out of control worldwide in the wake of the coronavirus crisis, w

Marco Rubio warns there will be a 'horrific bloodbath' in Cuba if Biden doesn't act - while White House REFUSES to condemn communism and insists protests were sparked by 'government mismanagement'

Florida Senator Macro Rubio warned on Wednesday that Cuba faces a 'horrific bloodbath' if the Biden administration doesn't step in - while White House press secretary Jen Psaki refused to condemn the communist regime amid a state crackdown on demonstrations in Cuba and instead blamed 'government mismanagement'. 'A horrific bloodbath is what awaits if action is not taken. So far the response has been weak, weak. Why?' he tweeted with a video Wednesday. The Republican also called Twitter hypocritical for failing to ban the regime, after suspending Donald Trump in the wake of the Capitol Riots.   'What I have asked the Biden administration to do — and I asked them two days ago to do — is I asked them to use diplomacy that they brag about,' Rubio said. 'Convene the United Nations, convene the Organization of American States in emergency session. 'Pressure or shame the international community into condemning and isolating that regime, and pressure
