Scott Morrison has congratulated Joe Biden on his inauguration as President of the United States.  In a tweet on Thursday morning after President Biden was sworn in, Mr Morrison said the US-Australia alliance was more important than ever before.  'Congratulations to President @JoeBiden and Vice President @KamalaHarris on your inauguration,' he wrote. A non-binary person who was granted the right to asylum in the UK because they were persecuted at home in El Salvador has spoken of their 'positive' experience living in Liverpool. Parts of California and Arizona brace for two YEARS worth of rainfall this week raising the risk of flash flooding after lengthy drought

Flash flood watches have been issued across the Sonoran Desert in parts of California and Arizona, where as much as one to three inches of rain are possible through Friday. Some parts of the area, long stricken by drought, typically see that much rainfall only over the course of two years.  'A low pressure system off the Baja coast will continue to produce heavy rain over the Desert Southwest tonight,' the National Weather Service said in a flash bulletin on Wednesday. 'A Slight Risk of Excessive Rainfall leading to Flash Flooding is in effect over this region as a result. This system, and the associated heavy rain threat, is likely to weaken and dissipate tomorrow,' the NWS said. New York police officer tests positive for COVID-19 after taking bus ride with 50 others to Washington DC to help with inauguration security, forcing all of them to quarantine in their hotels

A New York Police Department cop tested positive for COVID-19 after riding in a bus with 50 other officers to Washington DC to help with security for the Inauguration ceremony. The NYPD sent a total of 200 officers to nation’s capital to help with security, but the officers on one bus ended up quarantining in their hotels after a cop tested positive.   The cop, believed to be assigned to a precinct in Staten Island, felt fine upon boarding but felt symptoms during the trip. Once he arrived in DC he took a coronavirus test and proved positive.   'While he was there he became symptomatic. He lost his sense of smell,' a police spokesman said to the New York Post. Heathrow passengers were subjected to an hour-long queue at passport control today as extra Covid checks stretched staff - as it emerged some travellers were willingly accepting non-compliance fines to avoid giving their details over. Josephus Davis was arrested over the killing of Milan Loncar on Wednesday. He had only been released from prison on bail two weeks earlier  The Philadelphia District Attorney's office has admitted to wrongdoings after it was revealed that a man accused of killing a young college student last week was a serial criminal out on bail despite a slew of serious offences.  Milan Loncar, 25, was shot dead last Wednesday night while walking his dog about a block from his home in the Breweryton neighborhood of the city.  Josephus Davis, 20, has since been arrested over the crime. Davis had only been released from prison on bail on December 29 while awaiting trial on kidnapping and motor theft charges.
