Australian man locked up in a hellhole Bali prison accused of working as a courier for alleged British drug dealer says he's sorry for breaking the law as he didn't realise the consequences would be 'so harsh'

Perth man Aaron Wayne Coyle says he's sorry for breaking the law in Bali and didn't realise Indonesian drug laws were so harsh. Locked up in a Bali jail cell for four months, he was hoping to find out this week how much longer he would be calling prison home. But just when he thought judges would hand down their verdict and sentence, he was frustrated to learn the case would be delayed. Coyle was arrested in September 2020 in Bali and charged over 1.23 grams of methamphetamine which prosecutors allege he had in his possession. Perth man Aaron Wayne Coyle arrives to court in Bali, Indonesia on Thursday, January 7, 2021 Prosecutors have recommended the judges sentence him to 18 months behind bars. When Coyle appeared via videolink before the judges this week, he was angered to learn they were not ready to deliver the verdict. The real reason Queensland goes into lockdown: Why their new contact tracing codes, farcical testing methods and failure to learn from other states led to a three-day shutdown for 2.5million people

Queensland's rush to an extraordinary three-day lockdown in greater Brisbane highlights just how unprepared the state is for a significant Covid outbreak. Despite reporting no locally acquired cases on Friday, Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk ordered 2.5million people across the Brisbane, Logan, Ipswich, Moreton Bay and Redlands council areas to stay home for fear of a UK coronavirus super strain spreading. But the rush to lockdown has raised serious questions about the state's preparedness for a coronavirus emergency - and sparked a new bout of panic buying. Unlike other states, Queensland's contact tracing systems have not been properly stress tested after 113 days with no community transmission. Alex Salmond accuses Nicola Sturgeon of misleading parliament and giving 'untrue' evidence during the sexual harassment inquiry against him

Alex Salmond yesterday accused Nicola Sturgeon of giving 'simply untrue' evidence to an inquiry into complaints against him. In an explosive intervention, the former First Minister accused his successor of making 'ridiculous' and 'wholly false' claims about their meetings to discuss the handling of complaints against him. His account to the Holyrood inquiry into the way harassment complaints about him were dealt with claims that parliament 'has been repeatedly misled on a number of occasions' about a meeting he had with Miss Sturgeon at her home in April 2018. He also accused Ms Sturgeon of breaking the ministerial code of conduct. If the claims are proved to be true then it is likely Miss Sturgeon's political career could be over. Americans traveling to the UK are now required to provide a negative COVID-19 test taken up to 72 hours before entering the country or face 'immediate' $680 fine

Americans traveling to the UK will now be required to produce a negative COVID-19 test result before entering the country, in a new effort to stop the spread of mutant coronavirus strains circulating around the world.  The rule applies to all international travelers, including British nationals, arriving by boat, plane or train, the UK's Department for Transportation announced on Friday.  Passengers must provide proof of a negative test - taken up to 72 hours in advance - to their transportation carrier and complete a Passenger Locator Form before entering the country.  Those who fail to comply will be denied boarding by airlines or other transportation operators and be subjected to an 'immediate' $680 (£500) fine, officials said.  It comes after the US government in December imposed similar restrictions on airline passengers arriving to the US from the UK.  All international travelers must test negative for COVID-19 up to 72 hours before entering the UK or be subject to an

'I held my dying mum's hand as we both fought for life. Don't let it happen to you': It was the most heartbreaking image of the week. Now, the daughter who shared her mother's final hours reveals their desperate Covid battle

The image is heart-rending. A mother and daughter struck down by Covid, gasping for breath side-by-side in their intensive care beds, holding hands for what would be their final photograph together. Both gravely ill, one of them would survive, the other would die the following day. ‘Every second is etched into my memory for ever, so I don’t need to look at that photograph to remember,’ says Anabel Sharma, 49, of her final precious moments with her dying 76-year-old mother, Maria Rico. ‘Mum’s hand felt so weak in mine, as I gripped on so tightly, begging her to keep fighting. I was crying and struggling to breathe. ‘I was almost shouting because I didn’t know if she could hear me and I couldn’t hear her because of the mask over her face. That was when a doctor patted me on the hand and said: “Anabel, she’s telling you you’re not listening to what she is saying. She’s ready to go.” ’ The heartbreaking image of Anabel Sharma, 49, holding the hand of her dying 76-year-old mother, Maria Ri

FBI releases new wanted poster of 10 more MAGA mob rioters they're hunting following the arrests of more than 80 others - as Justice Department says there's no evidence Antifa was involved in Capitol siege

The FBI has released new photos of at least 10 additional MAGA mob rioters they are hunting down after they stormed the US Capitol in the violent siege that left five dead - as the Justice Department said there was no evidence of Antifa involvement. The wanted poster, which was released by the FBI's Washington Field Office on Friday, features close up photos of 10 Trump supporters that were taken inside the Capitol building.  Federal authorities are seeking the public's help in tracking down those pictured for making 'unlawful entry' into the Capitol building.  The most recent wanted poster is in addition to the dozens the FBI have already said they are trying to track down.  It comes as the Justice Department said there is no indication so far that Antifa played any role in the riots - despite claims from some Republicans that the group were posing as Trump supporters.   The FBI has released new photos of at least 10 additional MAGA mob rioters they are hunting down af

Los Angeles' COVID-19 death toll of 259 on Wednesday equaled the number of homicides in the city for all of 2020 as a worsening crisis leads the state to ask residents not to travel more than 120 miles from home

California continues to remain the nation's hardest hit state during the pandemic as coronavirus cases, hospitalizations and deaths keep surging. In Los Angeles County, the epicenter of the state's outbreak, a new death due to COVID-19 is now reported every eight minutes.    On Thursday, Mayor Eric Garcetti said the number of people who died in the county in one day is equivalent to the number of homicide deaths the city saw last year. 'Yesterday we had 259 deaths, that's one more than all the homicides in 2019 in LA city combined,' Garcetti told reporters at his news conference. 'In a single day, equal to a year of homicides.'  It comes as state officials issued a travel advisory recommending people not travel more than 120 miles away from home and government officials say a commonly used test may be returning false negatives.
