Married general quits in 'affair' shame: Army's recruitment chief is accused of lying about emotional relationship with junior female officer

The Army's head of recruitment has resigned after being accused of lying about an 'emotional affair' with one of his junior officers. Major General Chris Bell, 48, who is married with two children, was ordered to quit by the Army Board last month because it lost trust in him, sources said. He was accused of lying about his relationship with the female officer during an investigation when he was commander of a top-secret unit called 77th Brigade. It is understood he later admitted having an 'emotional' relationship with the woman, although denied they had sex. He is believed to still be with his wife, Alexandra, and the woman has since left the Army. Boris Johnson admits care home vaccination plan needs to step up because only 10% of residents have had their Covid jab so far - despite being top of the queue

Boris Johnson has admitted the roll-out of coronavirus vaccines into care homes 'needs to be stepped up' after it emerged just one in 10 residents has been jabbed. The Prime Minister — who has pinned all his hopes on being able to vaccinate 13million people by mid-February — also revealed just 14 per cent of care home staff had received the vaccine, despite being five weeks into the immunisation drive. Experts advising the Government on vaccines have told ministers care homes must be first in the queue the jabs because Covid-19 preys on the elderly and frail.  But Number 10 has blamed complications in getting the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine into care homes for the poor progress. The Pfizer jab had to be stored in specialised freezers and could only be used in 1,000-dose batches, which meant it was far easier to administer them in hospitals.  However, it is thought that the approval of the Oxford/AstraZeneca jab before the new year will accelerate the roll out because its doses are

Mitch McConnell tears into Trump and Ted Cruz-backed plan to overturn election result calling it a 'poisonous path' which would put 'democracy in a death spiral'

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell absolutely shamed his Republican colleagues for mounting challenges to the Electoral College calling it a 'poisonous path,' which would put democracy in a 'death spiral.'   McConnell also made clear that he did not believe there was any evidence of widespread voter fraud, as President Donald Trump has claimed.    'We're debating a step that has neve been taken in American history, whether Congress should overrule the voters and overtrun a presidential election,' he said on the Senate floor, after Rep. Paul Gosar and a batch of GOP senators, including Sen. Ted Cruz, objected to Arizona's Electoral College vote count.  Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell ripped his GOP colleagues who are trying to mount challenges to the presidential election during a Congressional session Wednesday  McConnell ridiculed President Donald Trump's claims of widespread voter fraud in a five-minute speech which will be one of his

Cleveland Browns' Rashard Higgins and Jedrick Wills are cited for drag racing ahead of the club's first playoff game since 2002 and could face up to six months in prison if convicted

Cleveland Browns wide receiver Rashard Higgins and rookie left tackle Jedrick Wills have been cited for drag racing by police in Westlake, Ohio just days before the team's first playoff game since 2002 - but the pair appears to have avoided a marijuana charge.  The players were stopped Tuesday morning in the Cleveland suburb about 10 miles from the team's headquarters, according to an incident report and court records provided to DailyMail.com.  During the traffic stop, police discovered a joint on Higgins. Later, the officer said marijuana could be 'bad for press' and told Higgins to stomp on it and kick it into the sewer.    'You guys are celebrities around here, so you don't want that hitting the news,' the officer said.   A Westlake police spokesman told the Daily Mail that the marijuana misdemeanor was insignificant compared to the drag racing, and since it was a negligible amount and no other contraband was found, the officers decided to ignore it.   A

De Blasio and Cuomo squabble over who's eligible for the COVID vaccine during slow rollout: NY Gov. shuts down Mayor's claim that cops can get the shot as city sets up mass site for injections

Bill de Blasio on Wednesday clashed with Andrew Cuomo over the slow pace of vaccinations across New York state.  The New York City mayor announced a plan earlier in the day to offer coronavirus vaccines to most NYPD police officers. An hour later the governor said many cops are not yet eligible for the shot.  'Police who are not health care workers are not yet eligible,' Cuomo said. 'We need to get the health care population done first because they are the front line, as I mentioned before.' Under state guidelines set by Cuomo, healthcare workers and nursing home residents and staff were the first groups eligible to receive shots when the vaccination campaign started three weeks ago. De Blasio appeared to take a swipe at Cuomo earlier Wednesday, telling reporters the priority criteria needs to be urgently expanded so those aged over 75 and all essential workers can be vaccinated.  Just 130,000 NYC residents have received vaccines across since the first vaccine was first
