I'm trying to make up for it, darling! When he broke his wife's wrist (accidentally!), GYLES BRANDRETH realised she needed Florence Nightingale, Mary Berry and Mrs Hinch... but all she had was him

On Boxing Day, my poor wife looked as if she’d been in a boxing match. She was a mass of bruises and had broken her wrist. Actually, it’s not quite true to say that she had broken her wrist. I am ashamed to tell you that I broke it for her. Not on purpose, of course. Michèle and I have been together now for 52 years. Naturally, we have had our ups and downs, and tempers can get frayed at Christmas, but we have never come to blows. It was an accident. Coming home from the shops on the Sunday before Christmas, each of us carrying bags full of festive supplies (more cheese, more chocs, more sprouts, more wine), we took a shortcut down a side street. Gyles Brandreth (pictured with wife Michele Brown) said: 'Michèle and I have been together now for 52 years. Naturally, we have had our ups and downs, and tempers can get frayed at Christmas, but we have never come to blows. It was an accident' The pavement was narrow and Michèle was leading the way. Where she goes, I follow — but I do

Porsche driver Richard Pusey rushed to hospital after rooftop stand-off with police who raided his home - as he awaits trial for allegedly filming dying police officers following freeway crash

The Porsche driver accused of taunting a dying cop after a horrific crash that killed four officers has been taken to hospital after a rooftop stand-off with police. Richard Pusey, 41, was pulled over by police for allegedly speeding at 149km/h down the Eastern Freeway in Kew, Melbourne, in April while under the influence of methamphetamine and cannabis. A truck veered into the emergency lane and hit four officers while they were testing the mortgage broker for drugs and impounding his car. The 42-year-old then allegedly filmed the crash site and verbally abused Senior Constable Lynette Taylor as she lay dying.  Pusey, who is out on bail, was charged with 12 offences including driving at a dangerous speed and reckless conduct endangering life. On Sunday at 11.30pm, police were called to Pusey's $3.4million warehouse home in St David Street in Fitzroy after neighbours heard yelling and windows being smashed.  On Sunday night, police attended Pusey's home in St David Street, Fi

Teacher with Mediterranean and Jewish heritage is left bewildered as his trade union insists he is black - despite him telling them he is not

A teacher has voiced his bewilderment after his Left-wing trade union insisted he was black. Jason Wardill, who is a design technology teacher, was surprised to be invited by the National Education Union to a meeting of black teachers last year.  Mr Wardill, 42, is of Mediterranean and Jewish heritage and has been trying to stop his union referring incorrectly to his ethnicity ever since – with no success. Jason Wardill, who is a design technology teacher, was surprised to be invited by the National Education Union to a meeting of black teachers last year He says he feels its actions are 'discriminatory' against other ethnicities and religions. The NEU – which has been at the forefront of the campaign to keep schools closed during the pandemic – says it treats black as a political term rather than a signifier of African heritage. Therefore the term includes 'all members who self-identify as black, Asian and any other minority ethnic groups who do not identify themselves

Joined in early matrimony... on Christmas! Happy couple asked their church minister if the big day could be brought forward – and were married on December 25 with their families watching on Zoom

Worried that a post-Christmas lockdown would put paid to her wedding plans, Emma Grainey asked her church minister if the big day could be brought forward. After nine months on the coronavirus frontline, the 37-year-old community matron feared further restrictions would mean the service - originally planned for yesterday - would have to be cancelled. She called Rev Aaron Moffat-Jackman the day before Christmas Eve - and was stunned when he suggested that her wedding to teacher Jamie Edmondson, 41, could take place on December 25 instead. Thrilled by the proposal, after a frantic 48 hours getting everything ready, the couple were wed at Holy Trinity Church in Dobcross, near Oldham, on Christmas Day, accompanied by their four children, Luke, 9, Isaac, eight, Ted, six and two-year-old Isabella. Mystery as McDonald's customer receives prize receipt in Chinese yuan instead of Australian dollars

A picture of a McDonald's competition receipt with the prize money in Chinese yuan instead of Australian dollars has confused customers. An image of a suburban Adelaide docket for the burger chain's Summer Cash Giveaway shows the prize money given next to the symbol for the Chinese yuan. 'Enter the unique code above for your chance to win 1 of 10 ¥ 10,000 Cash Prizes,' it reads. This is the receipt from a suburban Adelaide McDonald's uploaded to internet discussion site Reddit on Sunday. The Chinese yuan symbol can be written with one cross-stroke or two The receipt is from McDonald's Summer Cash Giveaway promotion Daily Mail Australia understands the typo was only in replacing the '$' sign with the '¥' symbol. That is because the Summer Cash Giveaway official website states the top prize for the promotion, which ends on December 31, is $10,000. If ¥10,000 Chinese yuan were paid, then converted to Australian dollars, it would only amount to $2,01

DNA confirms Nashville bomber Anthony Warner was a lone wolf who died in the Christmas Day explosion as cops still hunt for a motive

The FBI has confirmed that Anthony Quinn Warner, 63, was the attacker who perished in the Nashville Christmas Day bombing, saying he died in an apparent suicide attack when an RV exploded outside of an AT&T building.  Local and federal officials said on Sunday that remains at the scene were a DNA match to Warner, an eccentric IT worker who lived outside of Nashville, and that he is believed to have acted alone in carrying out the attack. 'We're still following leads, but right now there is no indication that any other persons were involved,' said Douglas Korneski, special agent in charge of the FBI's Memphis field office. 'We've reviewed hours of security video surrounding the recreation vehicle. We saw no other people involved.'  Investigators refused to comment on a possible motive, following reports that Warner  harbored deep paranoia about 5G  cell phone technology.    Nashville Mayor John Cooper on Sunday said he suspects that the AT&T transmiss
