A pair of Mexican journalists recorded the moment they came under fire in a terrifying ambush by drug cartel gunmen while they reported on the work of a small town's self-defense force. Televisa reporters Marco Antonio Coronel and Fernando Guillén had traveled to Tepalcatepec, Michoacán, to document how an auto-defense group has been combating the Jalisco New Generation Cartel They were transiting through a remote road  when cartel gunmen opened fire from an abandoned building. Coronel and Guillén were sitting on the flatbed of a pickup truck that was converted into a makeshift armored vehicle as the cartel assaulted the auto-defense group's convoy. The self-appointed Tepalcatepec Auto-defense group is made up of local residents who have taken up arms against the region's vicious cartels. Back to reality for Kay Burley as she flies home to UK after jetting off to South Africa following Covid rule-breaking party that got her suspended from Sky News on full pay

Kay Burley is flying back to the UK after jetting off to South Africa following the Covid rule-breaking party that saw her suspended from Sky News on full pay.  The shamed star - ordered off-air for six months by furious bosses after flouting Covid rules for her 60th birthday party - was seen tonight at Johannesburg Airport, this time following the rules by carefully filling out documents to comply with anti-coronavirus measures.  The presenter has spent the last seven days basking at a luxury £1,500 a night lodge on her South African safari, as London slipped into Tier 3 with infection rates rising fast. But breezing through check-in, dressed in a white tee-shirt with matching facemask, feisty Kay looked unperturbed as she dealt with formalities before heading to the BA lounge to await her First Class flight home.  Kay Burley was pictured at Johannesburg Airport tonight as she flies home from a seven-day trip to a £1,500-a-night safari lodge Burley was pictured filling out airport pap

REVEALED: One in five inmates has been infected with coronavirus and 1,736 have died as photos emerge of California jail staff partying without masks or social distancing

One in every five state and federal prisoners across the U.S. has tested positive for the novel coronavirus.  The rate is more than four times higher than that of the general population, according to data collected by The Associated Press and The Marshall Project. More than 276,000 inmates have been infected and more than 1,700 have died, and the spread of the virus behind bars shows no sign of slowing. New cases in prisons this week reached their highest level since testing began in the spring, far outstripping previous peaks in April and August, with more than 25,000 recorded infections. Now, the rollout of vaccines poses difficult decisions for politicians and policymakers. As the virus spreads largely unchecked behind bars, prisoners can't socially distance and are dependent on the state for their safety and well-being.  It comes as photos emerged online of California prison staff partying without masks or social distancing. Her face beaming with glee, Catherine Kelly reaches out towards the flower held up by an entertainer in a bowler hat – with a pane of glass between them to ensure Covid safety. This was the scene yesterday morning at Spring Lane nursing home in Haringey, north London, where clown duo Mad Etiquette were bringing a little pre-Christmas entertainment to Miss Kelly and her fellow residents. Although Tier Three restrictions means theatres in London are closed, performers Dan Lees and Neil Frost could still put on their show outdoors with the residents and staff watching through the closed windows.  Front row seat: Catherine Kelly watches clown duo Dan Lees and Neil Frost at Spring Lane nursing home yesterday The pair, known as ‘masters of the absurd’, visited Spring Lane as part of the Little Window Therapies programme run by Alexandra Palace, which brings artists to care homes across London in a bid to increase face-to-face contact in a secure manner. Now parents, governors and retired teachers could be roped in to test pupils for Covid-19 despite massive revolt over Ministers' eleventh-hour plans

Parents, governors and retired teachers could administer Covid tests in schools despite a massive revolt over ministers’ 11th-hour plans. Volunteers may be used instead of teachers to carry out rapid testing at secondary schools in the New Year, schools minister Nick Gibb said yesterday. But major education unions threatened to scupper the programme. They announced that schools will have their backing if they refuse to cooperate with the ‘inoperable’ testing plans. The Government has announced that around 5.5million secondary pupils in England will be home-schooled for a week in January and only called on site for Covid-19 tests. AG Bill Barr says CIA did NOT 'spy' on Donald Trump's campaign, slapping down president's claims - and says John Durham's probe is focusing on a 'small group' at the FBI

Attorney general Barr is reflecting on the calls he made that benefitted President Trump and a few that didn't in his final days in office – as he said the CIA didn't stray beyond its international spy brief in 2016. Barr told the Wall Street Journal he was suspicious that CIA agents – who are barred from spying on Americans – had spied on President Trump's campaign. The president repeatedly alleged publicly he was spied on. But according to Barr, it didn't happen. 'The CIA stayed in its lane,' he told the Wall Street Journal in an interview.  Attorney General William Barr defended his tenure in an interview during his final days in office Before his controversial decision to designate U.S. attorney John Durham to probe the origins of the Russia probe, Barr concluded he didn't 'see any sign of improper CIA activity' or 'foreign government activity before July 2016,' he told the paper.    The Durham probe is focused on alleged FBI misconduct.

Borders look set to slam shut AGAIN as Sydney Covid cluster spills out of the city amid fears of a Victoria-style outbreak that could see Christmas CANCELLED - here's everything you need to know

Australia's domestic borders could be shut for Christmas as a Covid-19 cluster in Sydney's Northern Beaches spreads across the city and as far as the Central Coast.  The Victorian and Western Australian state governments are both reportedly considering blocking travellers from all of NSW as the Avalon outbreak grew to 29 cases on Friday.   Victoria, Queensland, South Australia, Tasmania, the Northern Territory and the ACT have all banned anyone who visited the Northern Beaches from December 11 from entering their state or territory.   WA has gone a step further and requires all Sydneysiders to quarantine for 14 days upon arrival, regardless of if they return a negative coronavirus test result. The mystery outbreak has already destroyed Christmas plans for many, with hundreds of Sydney residents plunged into two-week isolation.  State Premier Mark McGowan said the Sydney outbreak 'may well mean that the hard border with NSW needs to return in the near future'.
